Possible rename edit
I suggest we change has subsidiary (P355) which does not seem grammatically correct and is therefore confusing, if I add the property has subsidiary (P355) it appears that the parent item is a subsidiary of the items listed in that property, I'd recommend we change the label to "subsidiaries," "subsidiary entities," or "Parent company of" with the aka, "subsidiaries"

The inverse property exists, parent organization (P749) but it doesn't have the actual inverse property logic associating them together, or the script to check for violations.

The description does not fit the property (in English) and the inverse property is needed as well edit
Given that some organisations like "the art institute" have many subsidiaries, it makes sense to be able to indicate "subsidiary of".
The current text describes exactly this but uses it where it is actually a list. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 12:04, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Type: company (Q783794) or business (Q4830453)? edit
I notice that Whirlpool Corporation (Q1471346) has conflicts involving this property because the subsidiaries are not instances of company (Q783794) but business (Q4830453). Should business (Q4830453) be a subclass of company (Q783794)? Or the converse, and we should therefore change this constraint? Rename to better support other kinds of organizations edit
From "subsidiary" to "parent organization of" edit
In 2013, there was a suggestion to change the English label from "subsidiary" to better reflect the inverse relationship (at the time, "parent company of").
In 2017, to support the use of the property for organizations that are not commercial companies, the inverse property parent organization (P749) was revised to have a type constraint of organization (Q43229), matching the broadening of its English label from "parent company" to "parent organization" (https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Property%3AP749&type=revision&diff=1042066557&oldid=514976974).
I propose that we reflect the same broadening for this, its inverse property, to use "parent organization of"; this label also parallels others such as instance of (P31), subclass of (P279), part of (P361), member of (P463), facet of (P1269), and subproperty of (P1647).
