Value type “taxon (Q16521): This property should use items as value that contain property “instance of (P31), subclass of (P279)”. On these, the value for instance of (P31), subclass of (P279) should be an item that uses subclass of (P279) with value taxon (Q16521) (or a subclass thereof). (Help)

Type edit

The constraint I've added is not exact - as some parasites can also afflict other organisms. What we can do to refine this constraint? Infovarius (talk) 06:24, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think it would make sense to have and independet property for the organism that is affected. I already proposed that, but at that time there was no support. Maybe we have to wait until more data is available and we can see how to further structure it. A similar situation with enough data is at cause of death Property talk:P509. --Tobias1984 (talk) 06:35, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think it would be useful to have some constraints on what the value for this property can be. To this effect I added some broad constraints (which was reverted because someone claimed it is vandalism). I think some good constraints for values of this property would be subset of these:

Any input would be appreciated - I really would like to have some constraints as it seems leaving this completely open ended is not ideal and constraints will also help guide people to using it properly. I think rather broad constraints which may be wrong is better than no constraints which is definitely wrong.

Clarification regarding purpose edit

The description is currently "type of organism which a condition or disease afflicts" but there is also an example where the value of this property is an organ (i.e. liver cirrhosis (Q147778) afflicts (P689) liver (Q9368)) - can we change the description to include "part of organism" (e.g. "type of or part of organism which a condition or disease afflicts")? I tried to do this but it was reverted as someone saw it as vandalism.

More examples where afflicts is not an organism but a part of an organism:

Expand object type constraint beyond physical entities edit

Would it be appopriate to expand the scope of objects for this property to include systems or capabilities? eg.:

Range of the property edit

Hi. In the property examples, I removed the one about liver cirrhosis (Q147778). When looking at this element, the property used to indicate the organ affected is anatomical location (P927). I suggest that the above proposition by @Daask is also handle by anatomical location (P927), this way, afflicts (P689)’s range can be restricted to affected species.
