Discussion

Questionable format

Formatter URL does not work, Slovak National Library seems to use a different number (see examples [1], [2], [3]). Current IDs seem to be VIAF internal only. I think it will be better to use SNL IDs rather then VIAF ones.--Jklamo (talk) 10:07, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

• @Jklamo: Your third example (Bartoš, Břetislav, 1893-1926) is at https://viaf.org/processed/SKMASNL%7Cvtls011454569. Your first two examples are subjects (hydrology, carp). I agree that we should capture the library's original IDs but I think it should be done in a new property. This one is for the prop reported in VIAF dumps: obviously it has some official status, else why would the library provide it to VIAF? I vote to delete the formatter currently deprecated for link rot; promote the VIAF to "formatter", and Jklamo please propose a new prop --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 06:49, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
  • @Vladimir Alexiev: I would agree with @Jklamo:: this property seems to have only 52 uses and I think storing vtls codes used only by VIAF is not so interesting if we have also the possibility to reach directly the database (while e.g. in the case of EGAXA ID (P1309), since we haven't direct access to the database, using VIAF-only IDs is still useful in some way). I would propose deleting existent values and use the property with https://autority.snk.sk/cgi-bin/koha/opac-authoritiesdetail.pl?authid=$1 formatter URL instead. --Epìdosis 09:07, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
    • @Jklamo, Vladimir Alexiev, Epìdosis: In my opinion, the Koha catalog https://autority.snk.sk/ can be easily accessed to build a MnM catalog, 47 Slovak National Library (VIAF) ID (P7700) values removed, as they seem obsolete, and replaced. If you like, I can email people of the Národná bibliografia SNK and National Library of Slovakia to be sure that the Koha catalog is stable, and old SKMASNL ids are abandoned. -- Bargioni 🗣 10:21, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

      • Let's see indeed. SKMASNL is still used in VIAF, so it's not "abandoned". Once decided @Bargioni: please also: fix the formatter; give new examples with working links; and remove the references to VIAF (as this new code is not part of VIAF)--Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 07:26, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

@Bargioni: Any news on that request to our friends? One problem I see here: The entries in VIAF are not linked to the entries in the Koha catalog. At least not publicly visible. The MARC entries in VIAF do not contain the "record registration number" from Koha (field 001) [4], while the Koha entry refers to SK-MaSNL in field 003 as "control number identifier", but without giving a value [5]. A connection between the two databases can currently only be done by name. Not impossible, but could lead to wrong matching. The vtls entries are expected by me to have a 1-to-1 mapping to the koha values, though. --Sotho Tal Ker (talk) 23:33, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

@Jklamo, Gumruch, Jeanjung212, Vladimir Alexiev, Bargioni, Sotho Tal Ker: Finally new SNK ID (P9807) has been created; it covers all the 94k IDs present in https://autority.snk.sk/cgi-bin/koha/opac-authorities-home.pl; about one third of these IDs (34k) are humans and are now in https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/catalog/4650. --Epìdosis 14:23, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
