Work to be done edit
There are lists of extinct animals on Wikipedia [1]. It would be useful to import that data into WikiData! The-erinaceous-one (talk) 09:51, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Difficult Items to Classify edit
Occasionally we'll come accross an item that is tricky to add extinction date (P8556) to, so let's collect them here so we can sort them out.
Item | Reason for difficulty | Solution |
---|---|---|
Hispaniolan edible rat (Q301328) | Extinction date is given as a range | My solution was to use earliest date (P1319) and latest date (P1326) as qualifiers and set the value of extinction date (P8556) to the center of the time span. |
Puerto Rican hutia (Q1767062) | Extinction date is only given as "early 1900s" | I set the date to the decade of 1900s and used "sourcing circumstances" and "circa" as a qualifier. An alternative is to set the century and use "sourcing circumstances" "beginning of". |
