Monolingual?Edit

What's the preferred way to indicate the language in which a given pronunciation is used? Should we use the monolingual string datatype with built-in language codes? --- Jura 12:30, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

ConstraintEdit

Language as a qualifier - not necessary for Lexemes. Shall we delete the constraint? --Infovarius (talk) 13:00, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

  Support @Infovarius: --Loominade (talk) 11:40, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

@Jura1: that’s not currently possible as far as I’m aware, but it might be useful to add. It looks like we’re returning to the idea of additional kinds of constraint scopes, which came up in Wikidata:Property proposal/constraint scope already. The current constraint scope (P4680) limits the scope according to the context type, whereas this new feature would limit the scope according to the entity type. --Lucas Werkmeister (WMDE) (talk) 09:28, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Include delimiters?Edit

should delimiters be included into the value? [ˈɛːɐ̯poːɐ̯t] or ˈɛːɐ̯poːɐ̯t (or even /ˈɛə.pɔːt/ for that matter). Right now it seems like no one cares --Shisma (talk) 14:37, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

  • I was wondering about that just this week. It should be simple to add or remove them. Is there a difference between the various delimiters? --- Jura 14:52, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
    • [] indicates a phonetic (detailed) transcription, while // indicates a phonemic (with only contrasting sounds) transcription. A transcription that has neither is ambiguous and should be avoided. It should be possible to provide both side by side, like on gronostaj (L21318). —Rua (mew) 15:04, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
      • Agree, how about two separate Properties? IPA Phonetic Description and IPA Phonemic Description--Shisma (talk) 06:18, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
      • Maybe a note in the (English) description could help. What with the other possible formats? --- Jura 11:23, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
      • This is totally wrong! Brackets should be excluded and replaced by qualifier phonemic transcription (Q16617555) or phonetic transcription (Q743569). Don Rumata 15:09, 20 November 2018 (UTC)
  • When querying, one should probably make use of some normalized form. How could that work? --- Jura 11:23, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
  • I prefer values with [ ] / /. The linguistic standard is to use them. They can be easy distinguished with STRSTARTS function in queries. KaMan (talk) 07:05, 21 November 2018 (UTC)
