Monolingual? edit

What's the preferred way to indicate the language in which a given pronunciation is used? Should we use the monolingual string datatype with built-in language codes? --- Jura 12:30, 7 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Constraint edit

Language as a qualifier - not necessary for Lexemes. Shall we delete the constraint? --Infovarius (talk) 13:00, 24 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

  Support @Infovarius: --Loominade (talk) 11:40, 14 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Jura1: that’s not currently possible as far as I’m aware, but it might be useful to add. It looks like we’re returning to the idea of additional kinds of constraint scopes, which came up in Wikidata:Property proposal/constraint scope already. The current constraint scope (P4680) limits the scope according to the context type, whereas this new feature would limit the scope according to the entity type. --Lucas Werkmeister (WMDE) (talk) 09:28, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Include delimiters? edit

should delimiters be included into the value? [ˈɛːɐ̯poːɐ̯t] or ˈɛːɐ̯poːɐ̯t (or even /ˈɛə.pɔːt/ for that matter). Right now it seems like no one cares --Shisma (talk) 14:37, 16 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

How to mark dialect region? edit

If an IPA is a description of a pronunciation in a regional dialect, how should the region be marked? I tried adding location (P276) to an IPA but this triggers an exclamation mark. See Lexeme:L1149927#F1. Robert (talk) 07:17, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I found two Lexemes with each having two IPAs with different language of work or name (P407): German Eigen L344376 (German and Austrian German) and English Talk (L379) American and British English). The query I used. So presumably I should create wikidata objects for dialects and use those? Robert (talk) 08:30, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
All options considered, I ended up using pronunciation variety (P5237) to mark geographical areas for dialects' IPA transcription (P898). Robert (talk) 11:47, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
