James Thrall Soby, collector, critic, organizer of exhibitions and former trustee and benefactor of the Museum of Modern Art., died yesterday in a hospital in Norwalk, Conn. He was 72 years old.Mr. Soby, a longtime activist in 20thcentury art, was an honorary trustee of the museum and honorary chairman of its committee on painting and sculpture. Under his will, the museum is to receive a large number of paintings, sculptures and drawings, many of them of the highest quality. (English)
