Canvas mix up edit
Looks like we got ourself a nice modelling messy mix up. We have canvas (Q4259259) and canvas (Q12321255) with articles in all sorts of languages:
- canvas (Q4259259) - The material that can be used for all sorts of things, for example to paint on it
- canvas (Q12321255) - A surface to paint on, can be made of all sorts of materials, for example canvas (Q4259259), but can be made of other fabrics too
That's going to be fun to untangle. Multichill (talk) 14:16, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- Uh oh, and the current definitions do not match the currant practice:
- canvas (Q4259259) is used 70101 times as made from material (P186), of which 69983 for instance of (P31) painting (Q3305213)
- canvas (Q12321255) is used 864 times as made from material (P186), of which 839 times for instance of (P31) painting (Q3305213)

- @Danmichaelo: We might need to create a new "canvas" item which is subclassed to both canvas (Q4259259) & canvas (Q12321255), and make a clearer distinction between the three, but we might be stricter than the data we're sourcing from. Multichill (talk) 21:57, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Multichill: Hm, not sure if I get you. How would a third item help? Btw. does this make sense to you? Or do you think both should be linked to 300014078? Danmichaelo (talk) 22:21, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Danmichaelo: to catch up on this old topic, see Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Visual_arts#Canvasing_about_canvas. Some clean up has been done and paintings are being switched to canvas (Q12321255) now. Multichill (talk) 10:56, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
