Change of method edit
On May 14, 2020, the method of counting got changed. Before May 14, multiple statements/qualifiers/references with the same property on the same item counted only as one. After May 14, each statement, qualifier and reference is counted separately. --Pasleim (talk) 12:48, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Pasleim: This is really a different statistic which makes the percentage Property_talk:P698 no longer makes sense. This should be splited to a new template.--GZWDer (talk) 12:51, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support @GZWDer:! --Epìdosis 12:52, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- You can see the chart linked from Property_talk:P698 which does not make sense. (the 2018-10-21 revision should be deleted.)--GZWDer (talk) 12:54, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- The percentage on property talk pages never made any sense! I don't know who implemented that but it was always a wrong number. If an external-id is used in references (like PubMed ID (P698) is used a lot), it contributed to the usage count but for the completeness count it must not. Before May 14, the discrepancy was smaller so you probably did not notice it. --Pasleim (talk) 13:09, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- So we can have three statistics:
- The percentage on property talk pages never made any sense! I don't know who implemented that but it was always a wrong number. If an external-id is used in references (like PubMed ID (P698) is used a lot), it contributed to the usage count but for the completeness count it must not. Before May 14, the discrepancy was smaller so you probably did not notice it. --Pasleim (talk) 13:09, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Number of main statement of this property
- Number of entities using this property
- Number of usage of this property
So I propose to:
- Move current Property uses (pre May 14 version) to "Template:Number of entities by property"
- Create new template "Template:Number of property usage" (with post May 14 version of this template) and "Template:Number of main statements by property"
--GZWDer (talk) 13:16, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, I created Template:Number of main statements by property (and also Template:Number of qualifiers by property, Template:Number of references by property). I don't know how to split the revision history of Template:Property uses but feel free to do it. I will adapt my script accordingly. --Pasleim (talk) 14:59, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Pasleim: 1. Delete Template:Property_uses and restore all old versions older than 2020-5-14 (except one in 2018-10-21) 2. Move it to another name 3. Restore newer version and move to another name. Alterenatively you may first restore newer versions.--GZWDer (talk) 19:56, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- The change of method breaks the nice charts this generated. --- Jura 17:02, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
- So this template needs a history split. I removed the chart for now.--GZWDer (talk) 11:41, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- Actually, the chart has become the whole point of this .. @Sjoerddebruin: would you look into the history split? --- Jura 06:59, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
- So this template needs a history split. I removed the chart for now.--GZWDer (talk) 11:41, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
- Distinct value count would be nice to have as well. --- Jura 06:59, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
- I added support for pages like Wikidata:Statistics/count/P171distinct instead and made bot request at Wikidata:Bot_requests#Entropy_of_properties. --- Jura 09:03, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Graphs edit
Hello @Pasleim, GZWDer, Jura1: Is is possible to generate the same graphs as the one linked above using the current statistics, i.e. Wikidata:Statistics/count/P691? Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 17:55, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
