Greetings,

A recently created item wristwatch (Q26965868) has been deleted by you. The item's notability is primarily structural. Consider watch (Q178794): it used to have labels "wrist watch" and "Наручные часы". That created an ontological problem since classes like pocket watch (Q849813) currently subsumed by watch (Q178794) aren't wrist watches. This conflation has also hurt our Wikidata import which, too, ended up assigning the label "wrist watch" to our ontological class "watch", which subsumes many more concepts that aren't wrist watches.

Incidentally, the labels "wrist watch" and "Наручные часы" were never added back to watch (Q178794) after wristwatch (Q26965868) was deleted.

Thank you

This is our notability policy, what criterion matches to the item?

1) No, any sitelink was in item

2) No, there were only label and description

3) No, no item used this item

Thanks for responding so quickly. Regarding the criteria:

1) while "wrist watch" does not have a Wikipedia article, a substantial portion of the article on watches covers the concept of wrist watch: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watch#Wristwatch

2) The item was supposed to have two English labels, "wrist watch", "wristwatch", two Russian labels: "наручные часы" and "часы-браслет", and one Spanish label: "reloj pulsera"; if it did not, it was certainly my intention to do so;

3) I was going to add the following links to the item as a start:

  • Link subclass of (P279) from Cartier Tank (Q5047341)
  • Link subclass of (P279) from Rolex Submariner (Q3440353)
  • Link use (P366) to wrist (Q185706)

Most importantly, to reiterate the problem I raised in my earlier note, having labels like "wristwatch" on the item watch (Q178794) is incorrect ontologically: pocket watch cannot be subsumed by wrist watch.

Thank you

The problem is that Q178794 is messy, some page talk about the "wrist watch" other pages are more generic and talk about various types of watches. I think that is necessary split Q178794. However, if I can give you a hint: it creates the items and connect them immediately, do not wait days or they will be erased. Here you can found item with subclass of (P279) = clock (Q376)

Agreed about the messiness of Q178794. With this in mind, if you could kindly undo the deletion (which is now a missing reference in our in-house aligned ontology), I am going to proceed with the proposed linking as soon as the item is available.

Thanks

I've moved all appropriate labels/descriptions/sitelinks, that I understood, to Q26965868.
