WikidataCon 2017

Wikidatans from different wiki communities gathered together on October 27-29, 2017 in Berlin to take part in WikidataCon2017, to celebrate Wikidata’s 5-th anniversary and to taste WIkidata Bday cakes. I was lucky to get a scholarship and participate in the event. I am a new comer to Wikidata world and this event full of rich agenda was a big opportunity to be among so many developers, to see and learn about so many tools.

I am a GLAM-y person, so I didn’t miss the topics related to it and it was useful to learn how Europeana, The National Library of Wales, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, National Library of the Netherlands are dealing and working with wikidata. Inspired with Jane Darnell’s talk about Wikidata painting catalog workshop I started a collaboration with Ara Sargsyan and Hakob Kojoyan’s Museum in Yerevan and Yeghishe Charents Museum to bring their collections to wikidata. I taught 2 workers from Ara Sargsyan and Hakob Kojoyan’s Museum how to work in data and now they put collection items into wikidata.

With the help of Jane Darnell and Nicola Vingeron I learned how to make sparkle queries and to have those nice data sheets for the museums I collaborate with.

After beautifully organized conference, I and Karen (who participated in conference from Armenia) gave a small talk in Wikimedia Armenia office, where I shared general information about Wikidata (I used Asaf Bartov’s complete beginner’s slides, translated them into Armenian) added some info about Wikidata conference, shared some good and nice data tools with the attendees.

Thank you to all the organizers for having this big and splendid event ! 
