The problem

What is a wine? What is an appellation?

At the moment we have a mix of ontologies. With Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC

• Subclass of: French wine
• Located in administrative territory: Vaucluse
• Product certification: DOC

This conflates the wine with the appellation as a physical place, confusing the two. This makes some sense at face value with Châteauneuf-du-Pape, as all wine from Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC is Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but it doesn't scale very well.

but we also have Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.

• Subclass of: Italian wine
• Product certification: DOC

This is better as while Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a DOC, and a wine, it is at least not described as a place. But it has a lack of connection to the geographic region which is Abruzzo

I think ideally we should define a wine, later on.
