See User talk:ChristianKl/Draft:ProposeDeletion for discussion of this idea

Users with ProposeDeletion right can nominate items and lexemes for deletion that bypasses Request for Deletion if no other user objects within 5 days. This is done by adding the propose deletion for reason-property to the item or lexeme pointing to an item which specifies the reason for which the item should be deleted.

Usage edit

To be eligible for proposing an item for deletion via this process, a user has to have either the ProposeDeletion-flag, the Admin-flag or be the creator of the item. To nominate an item or lexeme for proposed deletion, you should add <propose deletion for reason> statement to an item. A bot will complete the rest of the process. Nominations by ineligible users are automatically deprecated; eligible users may either remove the nomination, convert it to the normal rank (which adopts the nomination), or add another nomination statement.

Any editor (including the page's creator) may object to the deletion by simply removing the statement. If the removal is done by a different user then the user that added the statement and the rank is either normal or preferred, this leads to an automatic creation of a Request for Deletion for that item or lexeme.

Requesting ProposeDeletion-right edit

ProposeDeletion-rights may be requested at Wikidata:Requests for permissions: Requests for ProposeDeletion flag. Users may self-nominate, or nominate one another; however, users should not be given the ProposeDeletion-right if they do not want it, and non-self-nomination requests should be put on hold until the nominee comments accepting the nomination. This user group does not have the right to delete pages directly.

Administrators may add the ProposeDeletion flag to the accounts of users who:

  • are generally trusted members of the community, with have shown thorough understanding of our notability guidelines by their activity in Request for Deletions

Administrators automatically have access to the ProposeDeletion feature, so they do not need to be granted the local ProposeDeletion flag.

A list of users with the ProposeDeletion flag can be found at Special:ListUsers/ProposeDeletion.

Removal of the flag edit

If a user with the ProposeDeletion-flag repeatidly uses it to nominate notable items, the flag can be withdrawn by an administrator without a formal process. If there are controversy about potential misuse, a discussion in Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard may decide whether the flag should be removed.

Bot Activity edit

Remove usage on items with archieved requests for deletions edit

If this the propose deletion for reason-property gets used on an item or lexeme that was subject to a request for deltions that's archieved, the bot removes the property with a link to the achieved request for deletion in the edit summary.

Detecting new propose deletion for reason by a eligible user edit

The bot adds a template to the talk page of the item or lexeme that takes the proposed deletion reason and names of users who contributed to the item as arguments. This template automatically pings the listed users and tries it's best to explain why the item is proposed for deletion and what that means. Users who don't want to be pinged can add their user name to the page ProposeDeletion/OptOutForNotifications.

Detecting new propose deletion for reason by a ineligible user edit

If a ineligible user without the adds the propose deletion for reason-property it will get automatically depricated by a bot.

Detecting manual removal of propose deletion for reason edit

When a propose deletion for reason statement of normal or preferred rank that was placed by a eligible user gets removed by any user (whether the removing user is eligible to propose deletions or not), the bot automatically creates an entry to discuss the deletion of the item at Request for Deletion if they are no such entry. This does not nominations withdrawn by its proposer.

Deletion after 5 days edit

If an item or lexeme is tagged 5 days uninterrupted with propose deletion for reason with normal or preferred rank it gets automatically deleted.

Expections edit

In case the item has either a sitelink to a Wikimedia project or gets used by another Wikimedia page the deletion of the item or lexeme gets postponed till those are cleared. Items that are either semi-protected or fully protected get postponed as well.

Focused bot edit

The bot that will execute this policy is only allowed to do task laid out in this policy. To the extend that the bot owner wants a bot that does task that are not laid out by this policy, they those tasks should be done by a separate bot.

Adoption process edit

RFC that affirms this policy and property creation edit

Creation of bot edit

A bot that executes this policy will be created and the first version of this bot has no power to directly delete items. Admins will delete items from the resulting list and report any issues with false entries. When this bot is ready approval is sought via the bot approval process. At this stage we want to test the bot with a variety of different deletions but there's no demand to switch the regular processes that create hundreds of deletions per day to the new process.

Admin approval edit

Once the bot has shown that it executes this policy as desired, admin rights for the bot are sought. When those admin rights are granted the bot switches to deleting items instead of entering them into the list. At this stage it's desired that most of the regular processes that delete a lot of items outside of Request for Deletions get switched to the new process.

Further Request for Comments edit

Further Request for Comments might decide on limits about which items admins are allowed to delete directly but this policy doesn't specify any hard limits for deletions by admins.
