Motivation
editThis will allow Wikimedians and others to find out how to contact rightsholders for permissions to use a work in Wiki* and other projects. It should help encourage lawful use of copyrighted materials, and prevent "orphan works" situations. The WATCH database is one of the largest public databases of contact information for well-known English-language authors and artists, is free to access, and is kept up to date by the University of Texas Libraries in the US and the University of Reading in the UK.
