User:Lbenedix/UIFeedback

The Wikidata project is a quite new project in the Wikimedia space and it offers the possibility to integrate the community's opinion on the user interface from the beginning. We hope that the WikiData community is interested in getting closer to the development process of the software by giving feedback about the Wikidata user interface. The following page give some more information on this project but please, do not hesitate to contact us in case your questions have not been answered by this page. Thanks.

Motivation edit

Researchers argue that projects might be even more successful in the long term if users’ expectations and requirements are noticed, understood and kept in mind while planning and developing software. So, we expect that your feedback leads to a better user interface in long term and might even simplify the way you contribute to the Wikidata project. You know better what you want and need and therefore you can better prioritize the tasks the Wikidata developers should work on by giving feedback.

The Feedback mechanisms edit

Design of the Feedback mechanisms edit

Anonymity and confidentiality of contributed data edit

Users can send the feedback anonymously by ticking a checkbox “I want to post privately” in the feedback forms. They can also request to be kept updated on this issue. However, both options are mutually exclusive (as we won’t be able to keep them updated on the submitted issue if they choose to remain anonymous)

All personal data is handled confidentially. While the UserAgent will be saved to reproduce the issues, only their browser's name will be public.

Study design edit

We would like to add the UIFeedback Extension to Wikidata.org for two weeks. The extension adds a feedback button to the right side of every Wikidata page. We would like to test different options to ask for your feedback. To prevent problems with spamming as well as to detect multiple visits by the same user the feedback button will only be visible for logged in users.

By simply clicking the feedback button will allow everybody to give feedback about the Wikidata interface. This feedback reports are collected and displayed on a SpecialPage called UIFeedback in a tabular format. The validity of all feedback reports is verified (which is reflected by the status of each report). If required, an new issue in Bugzilla is opened.
