Entries/chapters in an edited book or encyclopedia edit

Periodical with multiple names edit

Periodical with unknown exact start date edit

Serial work edit

  • Example: Cross Lines, a short story by Josephine Spencer
    • it lists two different publishing locations, but it's unclear if they continue each other or if they are the same story printed twice
  • Example: Lola, another short story by Josephine Spencer
    • in this example, each separately published part is listed as a different Wikidata item. They are listed under the "has part(s)" property on a "parent" item.

Tagishsimon suggested three ways (copied from project chat, which doesn't yet have a permalink):

  • Two distinct items, one for each part. But that's a poor solution, b/c there's only a single poem/story.
  • Three distinct items, one for the poem/story and one for each part, linked using ... well, let's not go there right now.
  • In a single item, qualify the paired statements with applies to part (P518) taking values 'part 1' and 'part 2'. Create two items with those labels, and they would be subclass of (P279) -> part of a work (Q88392887). You could also then add two has part(s) of the class (P2670) statements, again taking values 'part 1' and 'part 2'. This soothing mountain stream, Allt Torigil (Q112754185), has an analogous issue - it is made up of an upper section with name1, and a lower section with name2, and so a couple of items - upper section of watercourse (Q112754787) and lower section of watercourse (Q112754789) have been created and are applied in paired statements in the stream item.

linking to online text of a work edit

  • Use full work available at URL (P953)
  • Example: Cross Lines story--it has two links because it is a serial work (??)

linking to an archive edit

Wikidata chat about Linking a person to the index of their archive

  • distinguishing between "described at URL" (P973) and "full work available at URL" (P953)
  • Use archives at (P485) with "described at URL"?
