This page is for people who are new to the every politician WikiProject. For a general introduction to Wikidata please visit the Wikidata Help portal.

We will configure your account, using babelbox, to specify the languages you see when editing Wikidata and to show your affinity to the every politician WikiProject.

Specify the languages that you want to see edit

Something to be aware of when editing Wikidata is that each item can have labels and descriptions in many languages.

Below is a screenshot of an item that is an instance of a regional government in Italy. Wikidata does have a label for this item, but it is in Italian, a language that this user doesn’t automatically see.

Fortunately, you can control which languages are shown to you in the labels and descriptions box. You do this by adding something called a Babelbox to your userpage.

So, if you're working on, say, Italian data, and want to always makes sure you see both English and Italian labels for everything, you can add `{{#babel:en-N|it-0}}` into your user info. This indicates that you're a native English speaker, and don't speak Italian at all — but also makes Italian labels always appear for you.

This will then appear on your user page as shown below.

Having done that, the previously empty looking item for an instance of a regional government in Italy now has its Italian label displayed.

Add an every politician logo to your user page edit

As well as a list of languages, you can also add an `|every politician` comment into your Babelbox list. This will then show a little box that tells everyone of your involvement with the project.

You can add a Babelbox entry, as shown below, at the end of your user info.

The line above states that the user:Siwhitehouse is a native speaker of English, has basic French, intermediate Spanish and no Italian, although he does want to see Italian entries. It also says that this user is a member of the Wikiproject every politician. You can see the box that is produced by this line in the image below.
