Why do you create new items to move the contents of other items to them?! --ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 09:32, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

course Wikimedia template does not the same as Wikimedia page, that describes using Wikimedia templates. Wikimedia template - type (class) of Wikimedia pages, but Wikimedia page, that describes using Wikimedia templates - one instance of Wikimedia pages. There be the best way to split entity, that used for qualifying Wikimedia templates from description on Wikimedia templates using. Vandalism Edit

Hi, you marked this userpage for deletion because of vandalism. This user however just put his personal homepage on his user page, which I think is no vandalism. You marked some more user pages. I will review them, but I think most of them can be kept. Please, there has to be some freedom in how one uses his user page. Lymantria (talk) 14:04, 3 April 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tagging pages for deletion Edit

Hi. I realise you have marked several pages for deletion because they are vandalism. I just want to say that not all are vandalism. Some are out of scope, spam, advertising etc. You might want to look at Wikidata:Deletion policy before you continue. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 10:30, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

+1. Many of your deletion requests are helpful, but you tend to call all kinds of things "vandalism". It's not vandalism if someone puts some sentences about the subject of an item on its talk page, it's not vandalism if some user puts some test contents on their user page, etc. And it is not nice to call something vandalism that isn't - by this you're calling someone a vandal who just wants to help.
Some of your deletion requests are unjust even without calling the pages/edits "vandalism". I saw you requesting the deletion of user pages muktiple times, when someone just put some test wikinsyntax or some seemingly meaningless sentence on their talk page. Please note that there are no requirements for user pages to fullfil certain quality criteria. As long as they don't spam, insult others, etc., everybody is free to put on their userpage whatever they like. --YMS (talk) 05:39, 6 June 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Once more: It's great that you check the Recent Changes for pages that should be deleted. But please stop tagging all those as "Vandalism", when they actually are spam, encyclopedic articles on talk pages, not obviously helpful user pages, etc. --YMS (talk) 09:49, 2 July 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You do not seem to be using your common sense— please review Wikidata:Deletion policy— and I quote YMS: Please note that there are no requirements for user pages to fullfil [sic] certain quality criteria. As long as they don't spam, insult others, etc., everybody is free to put on their userpage whatever they like. WurmWoode (talk) 17:41, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

About William Aalto removed picture Edit

Hi! First of all, I´m sorry for my crappy English. I think that you removed the picture of Bill Aalto. There was an older one on Wikidata, but it was wrong: it depicted another person who was not related with the entry´s subject. I added a new one (named Bill Aalto 1938) that comes from his Spanihs Communist Party membership card, that is now in a Russian archive but whose intellectual and copyright belongs to the mentioned CPS. Some years ago, this political organization freed his archives related to deceased people, as long they are used for educational, research and no profit purposes. Now, I´m sure that there is a sound reason to delete is, and I beg you to help me to understand why, in order to improve mi knolewdge of Wikipedia. Thanks for your time! --CCEguatemala (talk) 16:23, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Country of origin Edit

Hi I'm new here. Just curious why you reverted my changes on this property. The Norwegian translation is definitely correct, and I lowercased Country of origin as all other property names are in lowercase. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Emimull (talk • contribs) at 19:47, 18 May 2017 (UTC).Reply[reply]

@Emimull: Hey, let me see if I can answer the question for you. "ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2" was probably looking at the fact that country of origin (Q3373417) was an item referring to a "disambiguation page", and this instance, would have been correct, that all labels take the upper case, but generally, you are correct that Wikidata uses lower case when applicable, and on closer inspection, realised that the item had a link to the French article Pays d'origine, which is indeed a disambiguation page. So, I've taken the liberty in removing it from this item, correcting the labels and descriptions, and hope that even if you can't understand the intricate details right now, that you do continue to help Wikidata with your edits! Just one thing though, so you're aware for the future, there is no "[no]" label (anymore) on Wikidata. nowiki has the [nb] label here, whilst nynorsk continues to use [nn]. Jared Preston (talk) 20:47, 18 May 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
PS: I have now created Pays d'origine (Q29976029) for the disambiguation item. Jared Preston (talk) 20:54, 18 May 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Jared Preston: Thank you Jared for your reply. I think I understand the logic :) And hopefully I will get the hang of this editing syntax soon. --Emimull (talk) 10:55, 20 May 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Property talk:P1365 soft redirects Edit

I notice that you removed the soft redirect templates from Property talk:P1365, with the edit summary "redundant". It's important to make sure everyone's on the same page regarding usage, so I thought it would be useful to keep the discussion of the two closely related properties on the same page. Q1978718 unit of length. Used unit for length P2043 Edit

Is it OK that Q1978718 is a unit of P2043? If it is OK, how can I convert Q1978718 unit of length to other units such as meter, foot...

@Phucnt.nii:Meter and foot are unit of length (Q1978718) for length (P2043).I do not see a problem in the link from unit of length (Q1978718) to length (P2043) ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 14:00, 18 September 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: Meter and foot are used units of measurement for length (P2043). But It seems that unit of length (Q1978718) cannot be a unit for length (P2043). For example, you can say that my height is 1.7 meter but it seems unnatural when saying that my height is 1.7 unit of length.
Meter and foot are details (examples) for length (P2043).Thank you ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 06:37, 19 September 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

RfD Edit

Hey David, regarding [2]: yes I understand, but this is somewhat imprecise wording. To deal with requests on the RfD page, one practically works down a list of checks in order to decide whether an item is to be deleted or not. In case of batch requests this can to some extent be done efficiently for all items at the same time. However, that only works if they are either about similar content, or all by the same author with the same problem (e.g. bad import). The three items of your request were in fact not related to each other at all, thus it was confusing in the beginning to find them in a batch section. So, from admin perspective individual requests are preferable in such cases, they are more easy to deal with. And, in fact, easier to discuss as in this case with the airplane.

I’d also like to use this opportunity to thank you for your patrolling of new pages outside the main (item) namespace, and for your nomination of gibberish and promotional content for deletion. Cheers, MisterSynergy (talk) 21:20, 13 October 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • I understood. Thanks for the clarification
  • You're welcome

Greetings ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 13:29, 14 October 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your signature Edit

Since I am here anyway: may I suggest a tweak for your signature? It contains Arabic characters, which is right-to-left text. Even the most recent modern browsers are not capable of dealing with mixed left-to-right and right-to-left texts, and Wikidata is basically an English-dominated project. Your signature on Wikidata pages is in fact such a case, it does not display properly.

There is a suggestion at en:Wikipedia:Signatures#Non-Latin usernames for a fix. If you go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-personal and add as custom “New signature”:

[[User:ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2|ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2]]‎ ([[User talk:ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2|talk]])

including activated checkbox “Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)”, the problem would be fixed for all future signatures. Mind the extra ‎ directly behind the link to your user page.

There is of course no obligation to fix this, but I guess it would be a good idea, since it would drastically improve readability of your contributions. In case of questions feel free to ask (I’m watching here for a couple of days). —MisterSynergy (talk) 15:39, 14 October 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@MisterSynergy: The name was shortened.Thank you David (talk) 16:01, 14 October 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That’s up to you. Technically it is possible to mix Arabic and latin scripts, but you’d need to add the tweak as suggested. Having your Arabic name in the signature as local flavor is in my opinion a good idea in general, but adding the latin-script transcription “David” is very useful as well. The English help page indicates how one could add both, but as I said: your decision. Anyway, you are no longer “the guy with some Arabic name”, as most editors (at Wikidata) unfortunately cannot decipher Arabic text at all. Cheers, —MisterSynergy (talk) 16:24, 14 October 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@MisterSynergy: Currently, it's shorter and easier.Greetings David (talk) 16:28, 14 October 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

EELIS object register code (P4689) Edit

Hi! What's your rationale for this revert: Special:Diff/615189840? Environmental Register is primarily a database, or a national register. So it seems odd to state in a short description that it's a site instead, just because the database happens to be accessible via web as well, i.e. it has a web interface. Neither are given codes specific to this specific interface. 14:10, 31 December 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Also: Special:Diff/615567768. It's hard to translate, but I believe my suggestion "mille" more adequately addresses different uses of this property, unlike "mis kuulub" which is appropriate only for possession related uses. What's your concern here? 19:47, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I advise you to suggest changes in Wikidata:Project chat/et.Greetings David (talk) 21:03, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Project chat is not for discussing every single edit. If I actually did something controversial, it needs and agreement or something like that, then sure, discussion should be held. But I doubt that I did anything controversial here, and so far you haven't commented on these edits either. I've expained what I did, and and I waited for your explanation. Now you've reverted again without giving any explanation. This is starting to look rather hostile. 15:10, 2 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Discussion of proposed edits is better than speech David (talk) 06:40, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In fact, I did start a discussion right here, I explained the edits, and I'm open for further discussion. If there should be further discussion, then it's your turn to discuss these edits and explain your reverts. I'm not going to post this content issue on some other venue as long as there's no reason to believe that someone else than you might have a problem with these edits. 09:18, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
My explanation is that the current description is better than your description David (talk) 10:14, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Why? I explained why it's worse. Maybe you can suggest different wording which takes my considerations into account.
And what about the other edit, the one that deals with Estonian label? 12:14, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  1. "for a site" is correct phrase
  2. Estonian label reviewed

Thank you David (talk) 12:32, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I didn't correct it because of a language issue. As already explained, site and register (database) are dirrerent concepts. Register code is an identifier for a register, not for a web site. Register may or may not have a web site attached to it, this is irrelevant here. If you don't see "identifier for a national register" as a sufficent phrase then please do suggest a better phrase, instead of retaining a misleading one.
Second issue, I'm talking about the label edit that you reverted, one referred above (Special:Diff/615567768). 13:06, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  1. What is meant by "location" is a place
  2. The current description looks better, and you can discuss the edit at Wikidata:Project chat/et.Thank you David (talk) 13:10, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What are you talking about? There's no word "location" here in this topic nor in given property description.
You are not insisting that "looks better" as a rationale is superior to description not being misleading, are you?
As already explained, at this point I see no reason to discuss neither edit as a content issue at some other venue. Neither have you revealed any reason to do so. 13:27, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
David, - what about "identifier for an entry in the Estonian Environmental Register"? "identifier for a national register in Estonia" is not very specific, and "identifier for a site, in the Estonian Environmental Register" has the problem that as mentioned, it doesn't identify a *site* as such. I think "identifier for an entry" is better, opinions? --Reosarevok (talk) 17:13, 17 March 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please do not revert fixes if you don't know what they are about Edit

That makes no sense, <tt> is deprecated in HTML5, no matter what "we" think about it, and of course "we" is only two persons including you, Be..anyone, and me.  If you hate <samp> try <kbd>. – 04:22, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Q20439830 Edit

Hi, I noticed you revert my edit on Q20439830 where I changed the german and english labels. Could you please tell me why? From my point of view, the line number itself is the correct label for any tram/bus/etc. line. “Straßenbahnlinie“ or „tram line“ belongs in the description. Noniq (talk) 16:19, 7 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Noniq: Your labels are too short. Please do not make labels one character.Thank you David (talk) 16:22, 7 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: Ah I see. Where does this rule come from? I could not find anything about a required minimum length in Help:Label, for example.
@Noniq: It is not a rule but a logic because it is illogical to shorten the label to this extent.Thank you David (talk) 16:36, 7 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: I don’t agree: The label isn’t “shortened“, but the correct label simply consists of nothing more that a single letter. It’s the tram line “O”, exactly like for example the programming language C has the simple label ”C” (Q15777). And there are literally thousands more of items with 1-letter-labels, see example query. So please do revert your revert.
@Noniq: I think it is better not to make labels short but like the names of Wikipedia articles David (talk) 17:20, 7 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: The Wikipedia page for the progamming language C has the title “C”: So there also exist Wikipedia pages with 1-letter-titles.
But the article in Q20439830 Called "O villamos (Bécs)" (In your language "Straßenbahnlinie O") and it is the appropriate label.Unlike the letters articles Which we only have one character for the label David (talk) 17:46, 7 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: No, this is not the correct label. I didn’t change it because I don’t speak hungarian, but maybe I should have changed it for the sake of consistency. Using “tram line O” as label would be equivalent to using “programming language C” as label for Q15777, and this would not be correct either. Look, I’m totally with you that abbreviated labels make no sense. But here we’re not talking about abbrevations. As stated above, ”O” is simply the label of this tram line. Nothing more, nothing less.

Do not revert languages you don't know Edit

Hello, In this edit you actually added "he is the prostitute of Iranian music". This is not the first time and I reverted a completely similar edit from you yesterday as well, please don't revert languages you don't know Amir (talk) 15:18, 15 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Ladsgroup: I use Google Translate. The phrase means "Musician of Iran".What is the phrase that means what you mentioned?! David (talk) 15:46, 15 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
"چاقال" means male prostitute. Amir (talk) 15:50, 15 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

DO NOT REVERT LANGUAGES YOU DON'T KNOW! I reverted you here this is a valid addition! Saschaporsche (talk) 16:27, 17 February 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yet another case of it is here. (I've explained my edit in subsequent revert.) You should revert languages you don't understand only if it's obvious vandalism. By using Google Translate you can't tell whether wrong grammatical case was used, whether a label was ambiguous or whether new wording is otherwise an imporvement. 06:29, 17 March 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Q Edit

Hi David,

I'm not sure if you got my ping here. I was wondering if you could elaborate how you think the current property would solve the described use case.
--- Jura 14:38, 10 April 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just to clarify, I understand that you don't think it's needed, but my question is how you think we could address the usecase with the existing properties (if you think these should do). The idea is to discuss it to find a solution we could use to build the database.

Your rollbacks at AlviZaman30's user pages Edit

Beware that AlviZaman30 is the sockpuppet of a long-term abuser Alvi Z., known for creating misleading user pages claiming himself to be an administrator. After I had blanked his user spaces, you have used your rollback to restore the sock's edits. Perhaps that's because you're not familiar with this sock, alongside with the lack of English proficiency, and thought my blanking edits were vandalism. I have just undid your rollback, and so I advise that you do not restore edits made by a sockpuppet in the future. Thanks. theinstantmatrix (talk) 01:12, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not empty items Edit

First thank you for your work on Wikidata in general and on the RFD in particular.

But can you use a reason for deletion more explicit and elaborate than "Empty"? (especially when the item is in fact not empty at all).

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 09:26, 9 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@VIGNERON: See Wikidata:Notability/fr David (talk) 09:34, 9 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I use this page almost everyday, what should I look for in this page ? (by the way, this page doesn't use the word "empty" a single time, one more reason not to use a so poor argument for deletion). Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 09:36, 9 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Again today you used the reason "Empty" on WD:RFD. This is really not helpful, could you please stop doing that and use instead a more correct reason to justify your requests for deletion? Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 16:22, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@VIGNERON: Empty means no noticeable and that element was so David (talk) 16:28, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not it doesn't mean that, see wikt:en:empty. If you want to say "not noticeable" just say so. And a deputy is hardly not noticeable. Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 16:45, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Note Edit

According to policy "Policy does not prohibit users, whether registered or unregistered, from removing comments from their own talk pages, although archiving is preferred. If a user removes material from their user page, it is normally taken to mean that the user has read and is aware of its contents. There is no need to keep them on display, and usually users should not be forced to do so. It is often best to simply let the matter rest if the issues stop. If they do not, or they recur, then any record of past warnings and discussions can be found in the page history if ever needed, and these diffs are just as good evidence of previous matters if needed." 2600:6C56:6F08:1CF:0:464:3322:362B 08:06, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ungulata Edit

Hi. I see you've been arguing with Pi bot at Category:Ungulates (Q4333). I'm not sure why commons:Category:Ungulata redirects to commons:Category:Eutheria, while en:Ungulate and en:Eutheria both exist. There also seem to be Wikipedia sitelink conflicts between Category:Ungulates (Q4333) and Category:Eutheria (Q9530179). I suspect that there is a more fundamental issue that needs to be resolved here, but if you want to just stop Pi bot adding back the Commons sitelink then you need to also remove the Commons category (P373) value from ungulate (Q1231177), and ideally from any Wikipedias that are linking to that redirect on Commons. But the English version is exactly like this... And the first question I did before. Why did you reversed the name in Greek? Is that meaningless too? Ελ Γκρέκο (talk) 15:26, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ελ Γκρέκο:The name is correct. Non-useful descriptions have been removed David (talk) 15:28, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's not meaningless. That's the point! Because he could be mistaken for the also named Charles Wentworth Dilke (1789–1864) witch was his son! Ελ Γκρέκο (talk) 15:35, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Property proposals Edit

Hi David,

Some time ago, I was wondering as I hadn't seen your steady input to property proposals in some time .. even if once in a while we disagreed ;)

Hope this finds you well. Take care. --- Jura 12:43, 29 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hope you're doing well Edit

Hey David,

it's been a while since you last edited. I genuinely hope you're doing well, and that you continue to stay safe. I still see you in the histories of pages, and I'm honestly sad to see you go. We may not know each other, but I want to let you know that you're still seen and appreciated, regardless of how long ago you edited. You were one of our best vandal-fighters, protecting this wiki from vandalism when others were tending to other duties. You helped us in an understaffed area, and I genuinely hope one day you do come back.

Take care and best wishes,
