Items for SCP authors edit

I feel like using author name string (P2093) appropriate rather than creating their own items. @Aismallard:--Trade (talk) 20:54, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. Some authors have a large number of associated works though, so it seemed to me best in the long term to have separate items for them. aismallard (talk) 20:56, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
True. On the other hand, the SCPs are known outside their respective websites while the same cannot really be said about the authors. --Trade (talk) 21:19, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
This is true but it is in my opinion mostly an undesirable effect of Wikidot's UI and flexibility. qntm has used the stronger term "attribution crisis" to refer to how unknown authors are outside the core community.
Unless Wikidata policy has a clear preference regarding authors like this I feel like it would be better to have separate items. aismallard (talk) 21:34, 20 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cradle edit

hi, i have made a Cradle for skips if you are still interested. Hope you will find it helpful--Trade (talk) 07:17, 22 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh interesting! I wasn't aware of this tool, thank you for mentioning this! aismallard (talk) 19:22, 22 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
You can also use User:Trade/duplicate item.js copy the entire content of one item to a new one as an alternative. Just User:Aismallard/quickpresets settings.js and insert the same text as my page. --Trade (talk) 21:17, 23 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

commons:Commons:Undeletion requests/Current_requests#Files uploaded by pectraKo probably needs a response. --Trade (talk) 21:21, 23 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

We use personality trait of fictional character (P9652) for... Well, i suppose the name of the property is rather self-explanatory. Either way, has characteristic (P1552) should be avoided on items about characters. What to do about the smoker (Q18809854) i have no idea @Aismallard:--Trade (talk) 23:48, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Trade Good to know, thanks. aismallard (talk) 00:00, 3 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

SCP-280 (Q112410438) edit

Thoughts on some of the changes i've made compared to the other SCP items? @Aismallard:--Trade (talk) 14:08, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Trade: Oh this is pretty interesting. I think it makes sense as a way of structurally describing aspects of SCP objects.
I've actually been wondering for a while how viable it would be to make a Crom-based bot to automatically update certain kinds of retrievable data points, like object class, votes, number of comments, etc. aismallard (talk) 18:09, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sounds like a good idea. We could always have the bot update data points of other items if there is time. You can make a request for bot status on Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot --Trade (talk) 18:39, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I have made an item of SCP-166 (succubus) (Q112784289) but i cnnot find any way to link to the old revision. Any advice?--Trade (talk) 01:25, 29 June 2022 (UTC) @aismallard:--Trade (talk) 01:29, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Trade: So this data object refers to the previous version of SCP-166, prior to the rewrite, and you're asking if it's possible to link to revision 47?
Unfortunately, Wikidot does not have the capability to link directly to old versions, it can only be accessed via the UI. If this was just a text field I'd say https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-166 (revision 47) but this is Wikidata so hmm. I suppose you could do https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-166#_history and attach a qualifier which mentions the revision number? aismallard (talk) 01:46, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I remember seeing an archive of of deleted and rewritten SCPs but i forgot the URL. --Trade (talk) 13:45, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
There is SCP Classic (skips prior to the move to Wikidot), archived pages (for instance pre-rewrite SCP-049 was preserved as SCP-049-ARC), but since there isn't an ARC for old SCP-166 there isn't a direct link you can construct. aismallard (talk) 18:09, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Random thought edit

If someone makes a SCP game, should copyright license (P275) > Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (Q14946043) be added by default, even if the developer never states that the game is Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (Q14946043)?--Trade (talk) 21:02, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well the developer should state the game as Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (Q14946043) because the SA license requires them to. But yeah the work is licensed that way and should be marked as such (though there are some weird cases where parts of media can not be CC and only the "derivative" portions are affected, from what I understand, but I'm not a lawyer). aismallard (talk) 21:04, 11 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment edit

Dear Aismallard,

I hope you are doing well,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study should take no more than 15 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link

Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.
