typeof != "undefined" edit

When trying to use your version, an error "cannot read property length of undefined" is printed on my browser's console. Please read this.

For example, myVar_123456==undefined results in an error in the console, while typeof myVar_123456=="undefined" doesn't. Also, using typeof is safer, since someone could assign (in another script) var undefined = false and thus mislead your script. --Ricordisamoa 17:36, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations, Dear Administrator! edit

English | español | français | Nederlands | русский | +/−

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our gift is better than the one at Commons or Meta)

You have your gun; now here's your badge: {{User admin}}/{{#babel:admin}} and {{Admin topicon}}. Enjoy!

Ebrahim, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Wikidata. Please take a moment to read the Wikidata:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Wikidata:Project chat and Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikidata-admin @ irc.freenode.net. If you need access, you can flag someone down at #wikimedia-wikidata @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading, although it doesn't always completely apply here at Wikidata. You may also want to consider adding yourself to meta:Template:Wikidata/Ambassadors, and to any similar page on your home wiki if one exists. (WT:Wikidata/Wikidatans on En-WP.)

Please also add/update the languages you speak to your listing at Wikidata:List of administrators. Again, welcome to the admin corps!

Merge.js edit

Dear Ebraminio, When you are back from your minibreak, would you please consider this suggested improvement for merge.js? When admins use this gadget to merge and delete items, links could easily be overlooked. I have found several such occasions because the dead links caused constraint violations. An inclusion into merge.js might be very helpful. Thank you! Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 10:21, 24 April 2014 (UTC) P.S. Perhaps an added possibility to move links should only be available to admins...Reply

Hi! This is a good idea however I might not come back to Wikimedia projects soon, sorry. The gadget and its code needs a complete overhaul, using promises instead callbacks, using merge API over current multilevel move (a prototype of it exists actually). Also, no need to mention anyone is allowed and able to develop and fix the gadget. Thank you. –ebraminiotalk 09:12, 29 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Merge-project requiring language skills edit

Dear Wikidatan,

Even though Wikidata phase 1 (replacing interlanguage by Wikidata) is officially finished, there are still a lot a duplicate items that should be merged. Projects to list possible duplicates (and therefore possibles mergers) have been started by users such as Pasleim with User:Pasleim/projectmerge and Ivan A. Krestinin with User:Ivan A. Krestinin/To merge. Those bot-generated lists do however contain quite some false positives and therefore still need a human eye to decide whether to merge or not.

Since you are an administrator on Wikidata with knowledge of the Persian (Farsi) language, User:Ivan A. Krestinin/To merge/fawiki might use your help. As said, it lists couples of WD items that might possibly be merged. If you are already involved in these projects or not interested, I am sincerely sorry for bothering you.

With kind regards, FakirNL (talk) 23:34, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

FakirNL: Thanks for following the matter. Can you by any chance revive Wikidata:Wiki import task force and run its original code? I still feel miss that. 08:42, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Unicode character (P487)? edit

During the last couple of days, your user has made a great deal of additions of Unicode character (P487) to various items. It's not clear to me what's the reason behind this. Is it a bot error? Fred Johansen (talk) 15:36, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Fred Johansen No these were not bot edits. I didn't use an userscript even which I could automate some parts of these with it. I followed English Wikipedia redirects and characters description for this but it can have some error. As I am mostly done, feel free to revert my edits where it were wrong. –ebraminiotalk 17:42, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well :-) this is outside of my field of expertise, but I see that you have updated approx. 560 items of many different types, and most of them are not symbols per se, so I'm still wondering about this. When reading the P487 definition, I see that its domain is "All items that describes a symbol for which there exists a Unicode character". So I can understand that symbols like multiplication sign and Recycling symbol are eligible, but I feel uncertain about the other items you've updated, like alarm clock and other physical objects, animals etc. Even if you can give me a link to a mapping table for all relevant symbols for those things, I feel that you should restrict this property to symbol Wikidata items representing those (i.e. instances of a notation or a sign system or similar, or subclasses of these), and not use this property on general items of any class. If I'm wrong, please explain what's the rationale behind using this property on all kinds of items...Fred Johansen (talk) 19:25, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Fred Johansen: This usage is not something that I began recently, Q8441 Q467 (and a lot more) had P487 before my edits. Emojis (specially have a look at this commons page) as a part of Unicode (more specifically, supplementary plane) are not representing just symbols but they are given to real concepts as a replacement for words and text. It is useful info, it can be used for machine interpreting Emojis to text or the reverse way. I edited the property description to reflect this but you are free (from my standpoint) to revert it or remove all of violated usages. –ebraminiotalk 20:02, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
I see your point. The real issue is still what the domain of the property should be, i.e. whether items of any class could (potentially) have it or not. But since you've edited the domain description of the property, we can just wait and see whether that's accepted by the community or not. Thanks for your answers so far! Fred Johansen (talk) 21:51, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Fred Johansen: Thank you for following the matter and your willingness to make Wikidata more consistent :-) –ebraminiotalk 22:10, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

About Merge edit

Hello, I post a message here because you are the creator of the Merge Gadget, but I don't know if it's appropriate. I have a problem with this tool, I don't have access to it. I tried to uncheck then check the box in my preferences, but this made nothing. I already asked Lymantria but he couldn't help (User talk:Lymantria#Anatomie du cheval). So I ask you what I can do for solving this problem. Please tell me where I can ask this question elsewhere if you can't answer. Bloubéri (talk) 19:45, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Strange Unicode edit

Hi,

I was cleaning Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/P487 when I notice two things needing explanations with your edit on Unicode character (P487) :

  • on some emojis you add a Variation Selector, I removed it as I saw no reason to choose a variant over the naked form : Special:Diff/236856611 ; did I did wrong? was it deliberate to add it?
  • on items about flag, you add en:Regional Indicator Symbols; it's very strange but apparently it is legit… Could you confirm so I can add them as exception in the property constraints.

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 08:38, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

VIGNERON: Thank you. I think also Variation Selectors were not needed and they just happened on copy-pasting. I used this page (alternative link) for adding them. Yes, weird. I just think keeping them would be better but that is just my 2cent. −ebraminiotalk 11:42, 30 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Linkscount edit

MediaWiki:Linkscount.js‎‎ should be in the "MediaWiki:Gadget-" namespace like MediaWiki:Gadget-Linkscount-core.js and registered in MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition‎ with dependency to module 'mediawiki.language'.

Linkscount-core[ResourceLoader|dependencies=mediawiki.language|hidden]|Linkscount-core.js

Then it can loaded via

mw.loader.load( 'ext.gadget.Linkscount-core' );

in MediaWiki:Gadget-linkscount.js --Fomafix (talk) 16:29, 24 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Fomafix: Is that really needed? The idea is to use it on other wikis also and maybe as a default enabled gadget like fawiki or the proposal of the same on commons. I removed mw.language dependency in order to make more accessible to use it cross different wikis. −ebrahimtalk 17:29, 24 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think it is better not to source such a JavaScript file from an other wiki. It is better to import the file to the other wikis. This has better performance an can tested separately. --Fomafix (talk) 18:50, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
HotCat and RTRC are also served from a wiki to others and I think the performance going to optimized here is negligible in comparison to maintenance load and ease of i18n putting the script on one place gives. However, I think we can also hold this discussion until m:Global-Wiki so we move it to that wiki. −ebrahimtalk 19:29, 25 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Fomafix: no no no mw:Help:Extension:GlobalCssJs is in place, look at your Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. Such a universally useful script should be site neutral. We will want to use this in our m:Special:mypage/global.js so I can have it function everywhere.

Ebrahim. From meta I am loading linkcounter.js [2] I am not getting this to function (using monobook or vector). So I either have the wrong expectations of what the script should do, or I have some competing issues with other scripts. I was expecting that I would be seeing a link count (any namespace) for the page visited against the link. Or if I transclude Special:WhatLinksHere that I would see a link count. Can you please advise me of what it should be so I can try to diagnose the issue. Thx.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:08, 26 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

billinghurst: Thanks for your interest! As an quick and reliable test, do you see the "(count)" link on this page? If you click on it you will get a quick count of the page backlinks. Does that fail to work there? If so, are you using an old browser by any chance or do you see anything special on your javascript console? Or is this isn't just what you wanted? Thanks −ebrahimtalk 21:34, 26 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it works though I do get a modicum of delay in its rendering (8-10s? noting that js re-rendering is taking longer for me these days, and I probably have a few scripts running here). I can strip the parameter, and it works. I see it from my WLH for my d:user page and it works. Moving to meta, and works no issue. When I try it at enWS, I get the (count) text though when clicked no result, it just greys out.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:13, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
billinghurst: Great! Just have fixed enwikisource access issue but something special is going on enwikisource site itself as there is a color animation on (count) link that is not from my script, I guess if that is removed things go more smooth for you. Thanks −ebrahimtalk 08:20, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
I don't get a colour animation. Count works fine, thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:28, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Unused "Cite doi" templates on fawiki edit

Hi @Ebrahim:! Galder has been deleting templates of the form "Cite doi/{doi here}" that were not used on euwiki, leaving in many cases only the fawiki equivalent in their Wikidata items. Help us improve the Item Merge user experience edit

Hi Ebrahim,

We are going to be starting work on improving item merging in Wikibase/Wikidata this month. As someone who has regularly used the merge gadget for maintenance work and who understands the needs of beginners making merge requests, your input would be really appreciated. We would like for you to show us your process of merging items.

Having a conversation and a possible demonstration of your workflow will enable us to understand your needs in the context of your activities and it would help us learning more about:

  • what you’re currently doing with the existing gadget interface;
  • what your workflows are, and how they could be improved;

In order to achieve that, our UX team would like to spend time observing your interactions with the interface, and discussing your workflow with you in an individual interview with one of our designers. This could take place on any chat platform of your choice as long as you would be able to share your screen, show how you’re currently using the gadget and talk to us.

The discussion which will happen in English would take between 30 and 60 min of your time: we will set up the appointment according to your availability. The appointments will take place in May through the first week of June.

The outcomes of the discussions will be compiled anonymously and published on Commons after being analyzed by the UX team.

If you‘re interested, please write an email to mohammed.sadat_ext wikimedia.de or leave a comment under this message, and we will contact you as soon as possible.

Thanks again for your involvement in the project!

Cheers, Mohammed Sadat (WMDE) (talk) 21:39, 21 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Q16051950 edit

I don't know why, but Q16051950 was on my watchlist. It has been deleted. Is there any way I can find out what it was? Side note; IMO, this is one of the drawbacks of WD - only having an item number, not the title of what was deleted. Quakewoody (talk) 18:37, 7 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hey there, as noted its only link is deleted in an RfD. If your question is more about how to verify yourself the other cases also, which is a good concern I believe, you can check Google cache version, it should work on other recently deleted pages also. −ebrahimtalk 19:17, 7 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Neither the item page nor the deletion log gave me the link to the RfD, they just stated that it was an RfD. But, yeah, I guess I could have thought of an archive site. I recognize the name, but don't remember why. I assume, based on the country of origin, it was more spam from mh6ti. Thank you. Quakewoody (talk) 19:52, 7 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Hello dear ebrahim Im iranian like you , live in Māzandaran

‏I have two accounts with the following usernames: ‏1- @arian_aboutalebi is an Extended confirmed users account created in Persian Wikipedia ‏2- @zaghmarz1 which was created 8 years ago (2014) but I forgot my password by February 2022 . ‏In February, dear @ladsgroup admin blocked me due to spam behavior

‏A few days before I was blocked, I remembered my @zaghmarz1 account password and decided to continue with this account. And in a few days I made 112 edits to update and upgrade the information in Wikidata. Please see 112 edits for me and then tell me which version was wrong? ‏Even if, for example, one of the 112 edits is an error, 111 useful edits have been made, and I think blocking this is not the right thing to do, and we should consider a large number of good and useful edits. Only in one of the editions did I send a message to the esteemed administrator of @bovlb and request that he add the mzn Wikipedia page of Mr. Jamal Aboutalebi ( Iranian politician and environmentalist ) to his item a few days after its creation. Is this spam behavior or requesting to add a resource to a page in Wikidata !? Please help me unblock ‏Please read what I said on the page below and then respond if possible. Need your input on a policy impacting gadgets and UserJS edit

Dear interface administrator,

This is Samuel from the Security team and I hope my message finds you well.

There is an ongoing discussion on a proposed policy governing the use of external resources in gadgets and UserJS. The proposed Third-party resources policy aims at making the UserJS and Gadgets landscape a bit safer by encouraging best practices around external resources. After an initial non-public conversation with a small number of interface admins and staff, we've launched a much larger, public consultation to get a wider pool of feedback for improving the policy proposal. Based on the ideas received so far, the proposed policy now includes some of the risks related to user scripts and gadgets loading third-party resources, best practices for gadgets and UserJS developers, and exemptions requirements such as code transparency and inspectability.

As an interface administrator, your feedback and suggestions are warmly welcome until July 17, 2023 on the policy talk page.

Have a great day!
