Wikidata is a free knowledge base that you can edit! It can be read and edited by humans and machines alike and you can go to any item page now and add to this ever-growing database!

Reverts

Hi Hilarixx, thank you for your contributions to cloisters. Sadly I had to revert some edits: St. Pantaleon's Church (Q565187) and Basilica of the Holy Apostles (Q526047) for now. Both items are about the existing church but not the formerly attached cloister. I suggest that you create new items for the cloisters if not already exists. Raymond (talk) 12:46, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Raymond, you reverted Domstift Köln to Domkapitel Köln and proposed to create a new item for Domstift. I am not sure if this is the best solition or if it is better to add Domstift as an alternative name. Domkapitel/Domstift is not properly differenciated within the Wikipedia/Wikidata-Universe, but sometimes used as synonyms, sometimes not. External identifiers like GND, describing the Domkapitel are linked to Domstift-Items for example. If we remove Domstift here for Köln we would have to remove the identifier for Klosterdatenbank aswell, thereby valuable interlinkings would be lost. Difficult. Interested in your opinion. Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors

Dear Hilarixx,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

Head of a diocese

Hello, I stopped and reverted your batch because it's not the right way to model this information. For human, instance of (P31) is almost uniquely used with human (Q5) and never with a title or position. For that you have to use position held (P39). And the "head of a diocese" is a bishop, so please use existing items such as Roman Catholic Bishop of Metz (Q15729481). Regards, Ayack (talk) 14:37, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for your comment on my batch. I do understand that this is a critical way to model this information. And you are rigth, a bishop is a "head of a diocese", but there are many more titles/"position held"-items, that belong to the class of "head of diocese" (for example patriarch, administrator, vicar-general etc). The reason I created the item "head of a diocese" is, that I am looking for a way to be able to query this group of persons. But maybe this is not possible within Wikidata. Actually there are several ways to get what you want without using such an item. With SPARQL you can easily (when you know it) query sub-classes. The most difficult here IMHO, would be to define all the positions that are "head of diocese". Ayack (talk) 16:02, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Thanks again, yes I know I can query the sub-classes, but still I would not be able to get all items that are "Head of a diocese of the Holy Roman Empire (Q112193606)". There is too much information that is missing to be able to do that. Until now information on the time periods the individual dioceses belonged to the Holy Roman Empire is not complete. But that information would be needed. - But you convinced me that there is no quick and easy way. Hilarixx (talk) 16:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

I reverted a few (newer) edits. In this version, it is already stated that Wigfrid was bischop of Verun (Q22582345). With these edits, you say that he was a bischop (Q29182 of Roman Catholic Diocese of Verdun (Q877817), that means that we have to statements telling about the same. As the first statement also adds begin date, end date, preceding and following bishop, that information is much more complete. François Blouet de Camilly (Q3084001) needed even more repair work, and there are more issues where you added double information. I hope you will not run more batches, but first will make sure that you do not add double information, and if possible, remove all double information you already added.
