Wrong merge edit

Please be more careful with merging item with The Game - Dong Yen (Q16976379) and Dong Yen (Q15989131) have the same name, but are in totally different parts of Thailand. Ahoerstemeier (talk) 14:17, 14 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

You did it again - Mae Chan (Q15310472) and Mae Chan (Q4132203) are also different. Ahoerstemeier (talk) 09:57, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Mae Chan is a district, subdistrict and village in the same part of Thailand. The English article title refers to the Subdistrict, the article itself to village and subdistrict, the Dutch only to the subdistrict and the Norwegian only to the village. Grouping them together with the same wikidata item would probably not do much harm. Inwind (talk) 15:36, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
It does harm a lot, Wikidata should be a good data basis. What population number do you expect then on the item? The one of the village or subdistrict? The fact that the english article claims it is both is simply nonsense by an author you mass-creates articles without knowing anything on the topic, the municipality Mae Chan is not a village, but a "subdistrict municipality" which covers the most urban part of the subdistrict, and there even is a second local government also named Mae Chan covering the remaining part of the subdistrict. I haven't yet created that one yet, but finally that needs to be added as well and kept separate!
And now you merged the island Ko Samui with the city Ko Samui, also a totally wrong merge. Ahoerstemeier (talk) 08:58, 29 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Here we have an island which also happens to be a administrative unit. The current status is:

35 wikipedias -> island

thai wikipedia -> administrative unit (2 articles which seem to refer to the same unit (population and area are the same))

In my view again not a problematic merge. Still good to see someone do the follow up work. Inwind (talk) 10:12, 29 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

It is simply wrong. The district (and thus the city which share the same area as the district) contains several small islands around the main island, and even if they share the same area, they are not the same kind of object. If you merge them together, then the Ang Thong archipelago becomes part of the island Ko Samui. Just because some Wikipedia choose to put the two different topics into one article does not mean they are the same logically and should be put together here. Feel free to ask in the Wikidata:Project chat if you don't believe me yet. Ahoerstemeier (talk) 13:35, 29 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Kitty Genovese merge edit

Why did you merge an event (murder of Kitty Genovese (Q18341392)) with a person (Kitty Genovese (Q238128))? Multichill (talk) 17:52, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

The person is only notable for the event, some wikipedias prefer the event, others the person as the subject of the article. Inwind (talk) 20:06, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
An event and a person are two different things, so we have two different items here at Wikidata. Please don't merge them again, that would be considered vandalism. Multichill (talk) 20:29, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
as the articles are about the same incident they should be merged - the title can either be the murder of or just the person. Policies should not separate articles.Inwind (talk) 20:45, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
This is Wikidata, not Wikipedia. You're now the subject of Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard#User:Inwind. Multichill (talk) 20:58, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Multichill! An event and a person are two different things that sould not be merged. See for example John F. Kennedy (Q9696) and assassination of John F. Kennedy (Q193484).--Nikosguard talk 10:56, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Inwind: I reverted your edits.--Nikosguard talk 11:15, 25 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Removing occupation edit

Hi Inwind, why did you remove the occupation on Gisela Medefindt (Q1270296)? I noticed you added sport, but that doesn't tell if someone is a rower, steers the boat, is a coach or maybe president of the rowing club. Multichill (talk) 09:59, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Multichill, as rowers are typically amateurs I find that sport is a better property than occupation. Especially after their rowing career, most people go back to their original profession/occupation. I guess in most sports it would be interesting to add a qualifier like you have suggested. I do not know what the procedure is here, though. Inwind (talk) 11:04, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's a bit of a puzzle. Maybe occupation -> something with a qualifier that someone is an amateur? Multichill (talk) 12:47, 6 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
I definitely think it's wrong to remove occupation (P106). In many cases we have no idea whether or not the sportsperson takes a wage or even makes a living out of the sport. One can also work voluntarily or without pay. Some "amateurs", for example track and field athletes, may not gain any sort of salary, but do indeed make a lot of money from their sponsors. If they weren't notable in their sport, they simply wouldn't have a Wikipedia entry, and also possibly not a Wikidata item, but this is what they are primarily known for. By all means, feel free to add a property to an athlete's name and link the sponsor in the statement, and if you know what some rower's 9 to 5 job is then add that too, but given such an instance, it is wholly incorrect to remove this property. Special:ApiSandbox edit

Thanks for the link, I didn't know it existed. I'm not sure how that work, however, and a quick reading of the documentation didn't help me much. I'll have to take a few hours before I understand how it's done… --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 10:43, 24 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Harmonia Amanda:, I agree it is not paticularly intuitiv, therefore i have done a little "how to":

Two steps are required:

Step 1: get an edit token (Whever you want to write to wikidata you need a token for security)

  • Action tokens, type edit
(ends in / not // - the last '/' is used in json to determine the end of the string

Step 2: wbeditentity

you need to enter just three things
  • wikidata ID (alternatively site and title)
  • token
  • data (for the content see the example provided):
Create a new item and set labels for de and en

Good luck Inwind (talk) 11:50, 24 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think you overestimate my competence in coding. I don't even understand what you mean by "token" and what could this line possibly mean. I don't even really know what a json is (I mean, it's a file format, right?). How can I ask for the same edit in a thousand entries? etc.
I think I can understand how to do basic things with it, with a lot of time to understand all the steps but right now I don't know enough to simply understand what you say. I learnt to use the queries, autolist, QuickStatements and others, so i'm not discouraged, but I really need to take this way more slowly. Thanks anyway! --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 12:05, 24 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

IMDb and InwBot edit

Can you check the format of IMDb code? Format must be like "(tt|nm|ch|co|ev)\d{7}" --ValterVB (talk) 13:18, 18 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dates edit

Hi Inwind,

Nice work with the dates, thanks!

BTW, you might want to look into Q20113586 and Q19332015. --- Jura 17:54, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Human groups edit

Hello, thank you for birth/death dates import. Two issues: 1. bot adds dates to Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (Q153796) instead of Arkady Strugatsky (Q61699). 2. Bot does not specify datasource using imported from Wikimedia project (P143) or stated in (P248). It is hard to trace error source without it. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 19:51, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

InwBot edit

Hello. How could skwiki be the source of the statement, when there's no article on it regarding the subject (examples [2] [3])? Miodzio3 (talk) 15:44, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Bot was programmed wrongly - correction will start Inwind (talk) 16:13, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

InwBot: numbers out of nowhere swapped birth/death date edit

[4], [5]. Note that in both cases date of birth is greater than date of death. And the article about Wincenty Budrewicz does not even contain the number 1850. --Lockal (talk) 10:25, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

The template in the wikipedia article was incorrect. Inwind (talk) 10:31, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
No, your bot is incorrect. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13]. It was easy to find these edits, because in each element the date of birth equals the date of death. But how many wrong edits went unnoticed, because either date of birth or date of death is not set? --Lockal (talk) 14:04, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
You are right, it seems that a certain combination of infobox and missing birthdate upset the bot. I have finished the entries from the Lithuanian wikipedia now.Inwind (talk) 14:30, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Q12654469 edit

Please take a look at Fabijonas Ulrichas Glazeris (Q12654469), it keeps adding invalid dates (age of 250). I don't understand the article. Sjoerd de Bruin (talk) 07:56, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Leading whitespace in labels edit

Hi! I wanted to let you know that you seem to be including leading whitespace in the labels for some given names you have created recently. E.g., Andros (Q23305665), Shripad (Q23309943), Narayan (Q23309918). Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 21:08, 21 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Bot authorization edit

Hello, thanks for your bot that does good works. Is it possible, to keep an organization on this website, to open a task request for each one it does ? Thanks !

Wrong merge edit

Hello! You have merged a Wikimedia disambiguation page (Ligeti (Q1130026)) and a disambiguation page (Ligeti (Q17142449)). You deleted from it "different from (P1889) - and he really was different." Now the name of every person named "Ligeti" is an disambiguation page. You fix it, don't you? Thanks. Palotabarát (talk) 18:26, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Please also replace the family name (P734): Ligeti (Q1130026) combination with family name (P734): Ligeti (Q17142449) in these items. P.s. If you have the different from (P1889) there you should always ask the person who put it there. After that, it’s very hard to sort out if it’s still wrong. Palotabarát (talk) 13:28, 4 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

InwBot edit

Hi, Inwind, The last edit by your bot InwBot dates from January 11th, 2018. I would propose to remove its bot flag due to inactivity. Do you oppose to that? Of course you can always reapply for a bot flag, once you would want to reactivate it. --Lymantria (talk) 12:16, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
