Gender edit

Eeh, our Ipigott. Gender is sex or gender (P21) not sexual orientation (P91) ;) - Q28723543 diff. --Tagishsimon (talk) 17:02, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for catching this one, Tagishsimon. Must have been a slip of the mouse (to coin a phrase).--Ipigott (talk) 10:39, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Just a gentle reminder to double check data when you save it. You set the birthdate as April 2010 a mere 3 months before their death in July 2010, I've corrected it, but maybe something to watch out for in the future and/or check past edits for. Thanks for all your hard work! Jeanjung212 (talk) 14:35, 18 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pointing this out, Jeanjung212, and going to the trouble of adding many more useful details. This is the second time in two days that I've had messages about poor work on Wikidata. I see that even the profession/occupation was incorrect. From now on, I'll leave it to experts like you who can apparently spend up to 20 minutes on a single entry. Unfortunately I cannot afford so much time. I've been looking at several of the recent additions I have made on Wikidata and see that within a few days other editors have come in and enriched the data. Jane023 in particular keeps asking us to contribute more and more to Wikidata but I can see that it all seems to be a waste of time, especially when so much more needs to be added to each entry. My apologies. My time will obviously be better spent on further content work on Wikipedia.--Ipigott (talk) 15:30, 18 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Wow, sorry to read this. I really wonder if we can ever get enough people to work on items coming from wikipedia projects. We may need to stop adding articles to Wikdata for a few years to work on the backlog and improve possible tools. Jane023 (talk) 16:51, 18 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
Maybe it's not as bad as I thought. Going more thoroughly into my new additions to Wikidata, I see quite a few have "survived" but I expect that within a couple of weeks they will have been completed or revised by Wikidata experts. I am particularly worried about the occupations on which you put so much weight. I never know which ones are acceptable and which are not. Would it not be possible to create tools to prevent unwanted categories being used? It's not easy or practical to have to check which occupations are listed as acceptable on Wikidata.--Ipigott (talk) 17:14, 18 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
