Links in infoboxes edit

Hello Joalpe,

I noticed that you changed the genre-value in History of the Peloponnesian War (Q639493) from historiography (Q30277550) to historiography (Q50675). Unfortunately the second is an umbrella term that refers also to the academic discipline. I suppose that you changed it to make the link to the Portuguese page Historiografia appear in the infobox.

There is one way to make this happen without messing with the data structure here (it's a bit circumstantial, but it works): You need a redirect-page that links to historiography (Q30277550) (Q30277550) and redirects to Historiografia.

You find a description of the procedure here: Handling sitelinks overlapping multiple items. It's important that you link the redirect-page to Q30277550 before you enable the redirection.

I hope this is a solution. Please let me know if you have questions or see problems with this approach. Thank you - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 12:12, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Q49851221 edit

Please have a look at Retrato de Joachim Lebreton (Q49851221) and other items you were working on at that time. Seems to be some sort of mix up. Multichill (talk) 22:47, 22 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Multichill: Hey. I am not quite sure what happened, but QS messed up really bad this time. All paintings I have created have mixed statements. I teach at the university until very late tonight, so I won't be able to fix right away, but will definitely have to. Ederporto: Any idea of what might have happened? --Joalpe (talk) 23:03, 22 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'm fixing right now the others errors that occurred with the other participants of the edit-a-thon. The code worked fine with most of them, except for some items that have the same label, description (but were indeed different items). Maybe your internet connection during the running of QS, Joalpe? I'll fix the items you have created now, anyway. Ederporto (talk) 23:18, 22 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Ederporto: Thanks, dear friend! I am particularly concerned as this content is being mirrored automatically to Wikipedia... My classes today end at 11PM, so I will only be able to look at it very late. --Joalpe (talk) 23:32, 22 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Joalpe, Multichill: It took a longer time that I expected, but it's done. Ederporto (talk) 01:00, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. It's a shame you don't have inventory numbers.... Multichill (talk) 08:45, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Not sure how you manage to do it, but QuickStatements seem to be acting up again, check your recent contributions. Multichill (talk) 14:17, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Wait, are you running multiple instances of QuickStatements in parallel? Having multiple windows open and submitting them at the same time? Multichill (talk) 14:20, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Multichill: I saw the problem and stopped. Not sure what is going on. Not running multiple actions on QS... --Joalpe (talk) 14:22, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Museu de Arte de São Paulo edit

I was talking with Mike about this collection. Fired up the import. Keep an eye on Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Collection/Museu de Arte de São Paulo for progress.

  1. Not all existing works had (valid) inventory numbers so some duplicates will show up. These shouldn't be too hard to merge. Could use a hand here
  2. Some painters are missing. These will show up at https://tools.wmflabs.org/multichill/painters/index.php?collection=Q82941 . Could use some help creating the missing ones when the import is done.

Multichill (talk) 22:50, 22 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Multichill: Hey! Amazing work. What would be the best strategy to connect these Wikidata elements to paintings already uploaded to the Commons? I will look at the two issues you have raised about MASP as soon as possible. Thanks a lot! --Joalpe (talk) 23:29, 22 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
If you use the artwork template on Commons with enough metadata filled out, it will show up as suggestion on Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Image suggestions/Creator, institution and inventory number match or related pages. http://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=3322318 gives an overview of all the files of paintings in the museum that still need to be linked to Wikidata items. I noticed that quite a few files ( http://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=3322322 ) don't use the artwork template yet. Will fire up a bot to convert these this weekend. Commons also has a couple per painting categories that are not linked to the Wikidata yet (example), see the query at http://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=3322329 . Linking them will make the images show up at Commons:User:Multichill/Same image without Wikidata/Category match. Multichill (talk) 11:32, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Multichill: Solves point 1. Second point will take longer :) . How does data scrapping, like the one you did, work? This is the kind of skill we might be needing. --Joalpe (talk) 01:11, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Multichill: I think we were doing the same thing at the same time: creating artists' entries. I will let you do it then --you go much faster. :) --Joalpe (talk) 13:37, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
I found a couple more duplicates and merged them. Leaves us with three paintings that need a bit more digging: Interior of a watermill (Q19935945), Ill-Matched Marriage (Q5998624) & Triptych with the Crucifixion (Q27089511)
Created some of the missing painters so the list is getting quite short. I'm done for now so go ahead :-)
The code is at code is at https://github.com/multichill/toollabs/blob/master/bot/wikidata/masp_import.py . Multichill (talk) 13:40, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Multichill: We'll do the painters now. I have also asked Mike to convince you :) to chat with me when you are available and if you are up to. You know tools I had no idea that existed, and they might make our life much easier. We are about to upload from the GLAM with Museu Paulista around 700 paintings and I am pretty sure you can give us some hints on how to be more efficient. How does that sound? I am very impressed by all you know :) --Joalpe (talk) 13:43, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

dogs and horses edit

Hi Joalpe,

I see you reverted my edit. Can you tell me what domesticated animals are in the painting besides dogs and horses? - Brya (talk) 12:28, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Brya. (1) This is a referenced information, from the museum itself with which we are working. The reference is not suitable for Wikidata, as it is behind a paywall (we are negotiating the end of this paywall...), but you can have access to it after doing a search here: [1] and copying-pasting the inventory numbers (i.e., 1-19421-0000-0000). It will then require that you sign-up and after doing that you will have the exact reference for the information on what is portrayed on the paintings you are editing on. This is a university-research museum, so the information that is provided is part of a peer-reviewed scientific process; (2) In the particular painting I have provided there seems to be more types of domesticated animals --I don't know how they are called in English (farm bulls maybe?); (3) for dogs and horses, perhaps, a solution would be do model the information that they are domesticated animals as a qualifier, if you feel there is an issue with these specific animals. Thanks. --Joalpe (talk) 12:39, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well, dogs and horses, and bulls are subclasses of "domesticated animal", so listing dog, horse, and bull already covers it.
That a reference is behind a paywall is no obstacle to including it in Wikidata (or Wikipedia). There are even several properties for information that is not directly available, like Freebase ID (P646). - Brya (talk) 12:53, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Brya: Even when there is no direct link to the object? This search site only gives a universal link. Would it make sense to have an identifier then? --Joalpe (talk) 12:57, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Books are used as references as well (like Q14244038), and so are papers in printed scientific journals. It is the quality of the reference that matters. - Brya (talk) 13:10, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Agradeço a ajuda. --Hermógenes Teixeira Pinto Filho (talk) 15:29, 17 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Translation request edit

Hello.

Can you translate and upload simple:National Archive Department of Azerbaijan, en:National Library of Azerbaijan (which is the national archive repository) and « Category:Archives in Azerbaijan » (Q22029602) in Portuguese Wikipedia for these two articles?

They should not be long.

Yours sincerely, Matricatria (talk) 16:27, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

very BIG dimensions on paintings from Museu Victor Meirelles edit

Hello,

I've accidentally stumbled on items you imported from Museu Victor Meirelles (Q10333638), and some sizes are really, but really BIG : like 43705cm X 43696cm.

When I checked from the link given as described at URL (P973), I realized there was probably a wrong multiplier in the spreadsheet you used, and I fixed some of them.... like Estudo de Panejamento 16 (Q66016624), but there are probably many more of them...

I made a quick SPARQL that allows to check whether P2048/P2049 are alright or not (in cm) https://w.wiki/NeP

But could you please check all of them ? Thanks ! --Hsarrazin (talk) 20:20, 21 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
