The catalog seems to be stored under the "music artists" toggle group. Could you correct the error?

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

Uh I'm not sure what the "music artists" toggle group is. Could you explain?

Trade (talkcontribs)

Mix'n'Match "Catalog groups"

Trade (talkcontribs)

I also think there should be a seperate catalog group for music tracks but i dont know how one would do that

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

It doesn't look like I have the permission to do that.

Trade (talkcontribs)

Could you ask Magnus then?

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

No. Magnus doesn't respond.

At this moment, there are 4082 properties with P1629 statements:

Of these, 1003 take an external ID value (most of which I think should be migrated as I laid out last week) and 3079 take another datatype as value . Since you're interested in "class of property value" relationships, of the latter (non-External-Id-valued) statements, 2629 have a value that is a class ,and 450 have a value that is not . (I think the vast majority of the class values correspond to the ''object'' class of the property, but I haven't written a query for that.)

The full breakdown of properties by datatype is here: . Here's the breakdown where the value of P1629 is a class and where it isn't . You can see the properties with any given datatype like this (example uses WikibaseItem): .

My sense is that, rather than deprecating P1629, we might just restrict it to values that represent the object class of the property, regardless of datatype, since that seems to be the largest use, and its easy to make a "value requires P279 statement" constraint. For use cases that we might want to peel off to other properties, I'd look at the non-class-valued statements.

Also, in sorting out statements that might not fit P1629 even as it's presently construed, I thought it would be worth comparing property labels to value labels. There are 2015 P1629 statements where the English property label matches the English value label , and 2001 where they don't match .

Cheers!

Swpb (talkcontribs)

Also, FYI, there are 414 P1629 statements with multiple values and 786 statements with the same value as another P1629 statement . These are also good places to get a handle on different (including wrong) ways P1629 is used.

Fine with me but someone needs to change all of the labels and descriptions for P1629 in all the languages and we need to track and make sure it's used correctly. Seems hard but guess we can do it.

Otherwise, thank you for all the other querying work you've done. This look a lot more manageable migrating current uses than I previously thought.

Swpb (talkcontribs)

Sure, descoping is a lot of work - but it's less work than deprecating and migrating *all* the uses, which will also require ensuring labels, descriptions, and uses are correct on multiple properties, including new ones. Splitting up use cases and making sure they stay split is always a lot of work, no matter which way you do it, but I think keeping and descoping P1629 would end up being less work (and less disruption) in the end.

The Wikidata for Education project

1
Dnshitobu (talkcontribs)

Dear @Lectrician1,

I trust you are doing well. We appreciate your time in commenting on our property proposals, it is helping shape the model best.

This Wikidata for Education is a pilot project with a prime focus on Ghana’s education curriculum. We are working with UNESCO on this and we are looking at leveraging on Wikidata to show how curriculum data can be visualized in a more agile format through queries and also show how different countries curriculum data relates with one another but with different naming conventions, also to align the Wikimedia ecosystem with school curricula. That will help students and teachers to find necessary reading materials and resources through Wikipedia.

We are not trying to invent a new Wikibase instance for this project because we have most of the properties we need to digitize these curricula already on Wikidata except a few which we have requested to help show the relationship between and among different curricula in different countries and also help educators and students find the relevant curriculum content from different language Wikipedia. For example, a teacher or a student in Ghana can find content on a particular curriculum like Social Studies Curriculum for Basic 7 in the English Wikipedia (13 articles), French Wikipedia(11 articles) and Dagbani Wikipedia (1 article). This doesn’t only provide knowledge to the reader but also points out the knowledge gap in different Wikipedia that could better help make educational content readily available.

See a general knowledge graph query here.

The goal is to use the current property proposals:

ISCED Attainment; ISCED attainment refers to the level of education completed by an individual according to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) framework. ISCED is a widely recognized framework used to classify educational programmes and their corresponding attainment levels.

ISCED Category Orientation;ISCED Category Orientation refers to the broad field of study or specialization of an educational programme, as classified by the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) framework. ISCED Category Orientation provides a way of grouping educational programmes into broad, narrow and detailed categories, based on the subject matter and focus of the programme.

Competency;According to the Ghana Education Curriculum Framework developed by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), competency refers to the ability of learners to apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes to solve problems and complete tasks in different contexts.

ISCED field; ISCED field refers to the more specific subject area or discipline of an educational programme, as classified by the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) framework. ISCED field provides a more detailed classification system within the broader ISCED Category Orientation, allowing for more specific comparisons of educational programmes.

You can read more about the properties here

This to help show the differences and similarities in curricula materials for different countries. We acknowledge that the proposals have received varied comments and views. Specifically, we would like your feedback on the possibilities of the changes that could make the properties look better. I understand that you are on a very tight schedule, but I believe that your expertise and insights would be invaluable in this process. I would be more than happy to discuss the proposals further with you at your most convenient time soon.

Thank you for your help and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards

Hello there, I can't get this to work for me. Can you help me? I've installed it my /common.js but it still won't work as labels in, for instance, Indonesian still shows.

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

Could you post a screenshot? Is it just Indonesian that shows?

Sabelöga (talkcontribs)

No, that was just an example, every other language shows as well. The script doesn't sem to work for me at all.

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

I've figured out it's because your interface language is not English! I'm working on a way to fix this right now!

Sabelöga (talkcontribs)

Great, thanks!

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

It works now! You should probably check the browser console which will print all of the changes being removed. Make sure no changes are being removed that you don't want removed, and make sure in your watchlist there aren't any changes that are remaining that should be removed. Let me know if there are.

Sabelöga (talkcontribs)

Great! Now, is there any way to make it work for other languages or only the interface language? Also, whats's the browser console and how do I check it?

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

Right now it only supports showing only English results. I'm going to add the ability to show other languages of your choice in the future, but that could be months away. You can check the browser console by right clicking on the watchlist web page and clicking "Inspect" and then going to the "Console" tab.

Sabelöga (talkcontribs)

Okay, thanks! Give me a ping if you any time in the future come around to getting the script to support multiple languages.

Anyway, have a great day!

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

@Sabelöga The script now allows you to customize which languages show up! Go to your watchlist and specify at the top which language codes you would like to show!

Sabelöga (talkcontribs)

Oh, nice! But, why are there two lines and how do they work? I think I can get this to work as I interpret the first line as the language code inside the brackets [ ] and the second line as everything else in the edit summary. This works as far as I can see.

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

Correct! The second line is only needed really if your user interface is in English, however, it may be helpful in other languages to prevent accidental filtering.

Sabelöga (talkcontribs)

Yes, I had to add the word "på" (for Swedish) as to stop the script from removing edits that added both labels, descriptions and aliases in a specific language. I'll be monitoring this to see if any more usefull edits go missing without other search words.

Many thanks for your work on the script! :)

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment

Kholoudsaa (talkcontribs)

Dear Lectrician1,

I hope you are doing well,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study should take no more than 15 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link

Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

I do not think this is necessary, since proposal pages can be watched.

Lectrician1 (talkcontribs)

Proposal pages are effectively talk page topics so that it makes sense that you should be able to subscribe to them just like you can for normal talk page topics. Notifications are much nicer than spotting proposals in my watchlist among the 100s of other things that are on my watchlist.

Thank you! Did not realize this user has made so many. I left a second notice on their talk page about their habits. If they continue to do this by the bulk deletion they should probably be blocked.
