Merging items edit

Hallo MisterSynergy,

If you were not already using it, you may want to check out the merge.js gadget for merging items. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically nominate the page you are merging from for deletion. This way of nominating also makes it easier for the admins to process such requests. For support and other options you can check the help page about merging.

Hello cycŋ, I’m just using Wikidata occasionally to add wikilinks and to add descriptions/labels. This means I’m not aware of all these tools and precedures. I even had to look how to request the deletion of an item in the help section.
However, I’ve just added merge.js in the preferences section and I will try to use it on the next occasion. Thanks for your advice! —MisterSynergy (talk) 08:28, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

[...] this issue should be fixed on the Polish wiki. Afterwards one of the pages there should be a redirect, can be removed from its item and the items can be merged. - cycŋ - (talkcontribslogs) 08:17, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Okay, anyone here who could do that? 3.5 years ago someone added a note to the shorter article that requests merging (diff), but nothing has happened since. Unfortunately, I’m not able to use the Polish language… —MisterSynergy (talk) 08:34, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well, first a merging request needs to be posted, which has been done 3,5 years ago so someone should have noticed that by now. Nothing is happening, so you can leave comments on the talk page(s) in English; Someone there should be able to speak English and you could try German as well, as there may be people on the plwiki that understand that language rather than English. I found that a lot of Eastern Europeans tend to react badly to the German language, though.
Alternatively, or when you don't get a response (in a language you understand), you could force the issue by replacing the short artikle with a redirect to the long on. In Polish that would be:
#PATRZ [[Rodica Şerban-Florea]]

Then leave it to the Poles to check if something in the previous version of the redirect you created is missing in the long article and add it.

With the short article then being a redirect it may be removed form its item and the two can be merged, with merge.js or by reposting your previous nomination. Someone on the plwiki may react by undoing the reaction of the redirect, but wou will have succeeded in drawing attention to the request to merge the two articles. If the reverse the redirect, the merged wikidata item should be updated, so it could be wise to check the Polish article after a few days. If they decide to rename the article, deleting the redirect and placing the article in its place, the wikidata bots will notice the renaming and update the item automatically. - cycŋ - (talkcontribslogs) 10:21, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have once or twice tried to ask something on plwiki disc pages in English, but I wasn’t successful at all. Looks as if no one is listening there. So I’ve now just merged these articles on plwiki by myself (using Google Translate to roughly understand the contents): The short version is now a redirect, and I’ve removed the plwiki-link here from the corresponding Wikidata item. merge.js did the merging and the RfD on the no longer used item. —MisterSynergy (talk) 11:49, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
