Hi, do you know if there's any way to make the sitenames in local-language instead of user-language?

NMaia (talkcontribs)

You can try appending ?uselang=fr to an URL for example. But I'm not sure if that's exactly what you're asking.

Sabelöga (talkcontribs)

I want this (see left side of image) if this is possible but for label languages. I want the label languages in local names and their language codes displayed to the left of it.

NMaia (talkcontribs)

No idea, sorry.

Sabelöga (talkcontribs)

Okay, thanks for reply.

Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors

1
Kholoudsaa (talkcontribs)

Dear NMaia,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at [] or [] or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

In relation to your comment about vegan diet on veganism (Q181138), plant-based diet (Q7201457) should not be used.

My concern is with MeSH descriptor ID (P486). https://meshb.nlm.nih.gov/record/ui?ui=D014676 is for vegetarian diet. https://meshb.nlm.nih.gov/record/ui?ui=D000067269 is for vegan diet "avoiding animal products in any form". This term was added to the MeSH system in 2016.

On the English Wikipedia, "vegan diet" redirects to "veganism", and "plant-based diet" states that "While a plant-based diet avoids or has limited animal products, it is not necessarily vegan." It may be that a separate item for vegan diet is needed here.

NMaia (talkcontribs)

Hi Charles, thanks for reaching out. I think you're right, a new item for it needs to be created. Would you mind doing it?

Fusão de "Q106311147" e "Q106204649"

MuriloHDD (talkcontribs)

Feito!

P1007 - número na Plataforma Lattes

AmarilisMGC (talkcontribs)

Hi, strange question, but are you Template:Pikolas? Did you proposed the creation of P1007? I'm having trouble to understand the potential issue/value constraint to all items that present this property. The single value seems to be correct in all cases. Thank you AmarilisMGC (talk) 20:23, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

NMaia (talkcontribs)

Olá! Sim, fui eu.

AmarilisMGC (talkcontribs)

Entendi. Achava que IDs não precisavam de referência. Posso usar o próprio link do currículo?

NMaia (talkcontribs)

Opening hours used in German Wikivoyage

8
RolandUnger (talkcontribs)

After the addition of opening time (P8626) and closing time (P8627) I wrote the Lua module Hours (Q99600452) which makes opening hours, stored at Wikidata, available for establishment listings at the German Wikivoyage. The stand-alone module can be used both with other Lua modules or with an invoke call in a template and can be easily translated. The module produces a compact output with short or abbreviated names and clustered time periods as far as possible which can be learned form the documentation of the module mentioned.

The module is already for productive purposes. There are some maintenance categories to watch the module's operation. A special feature is used which we already added to other Wikidata data-fetching modules in a similar manner: For common ids we are using a table to prevent fetching from Wikidata which is time consuming. --RolandUnger (talk) 07:57, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

NMaia (talkcontribs)

That's great news, Roland. I created the proposal imagining it could be useful for Wikivoyage, and I'm happy to see this new development. I don't know if the German Wikivoyage has a listing template similar to the English Wikivoyage, but it would be neat if such a template allowed importing existing hours data into Wikidata. Would it be feasible?

RolandUnger (talkcontribs)

Of course there is a listing template at the German Wikivoyage: it is named vCard. The usage is similar to other Wikivoyage language branches but the programming is completely different. The script is completely programmed in Lua with about 10,000 lines supporting more than 70 template parameters and fetching more than 60 Wikidata properties. The Lua script can only import data from Wikidata, not do Wikidata.

We are planning to export data to Wikidata, maybe with the listing editor for individual listings or with a bot script. The data has to be correct before exporting to Wikidata which has to be proved by authors. There are a lot of maintenance categories which make it possible to detect formally wrong data already now. Within the next time we will look for an opportunity to analyze the manually entered hours and to mark entries which cannot be transferred. We will start with the investigation of used, or meaningless of (commonly) misspelled terms.

NMaia (talkcontribs)

By the way, you might already know this, but the property state of use (P5817) might come in handy in Wikivoyage to override any opening hours in case the establishment is in fact closed temporarily due to the pandemic, for instance.

The way I've been handling this is by adding reference URL (P854) together with retrieved (P813). This allows users to know when that information was valid. In fact, I wanted to make retrieved (P813) mandatory but unless I'm mistaken it seems Wikibase doesn't allow creating constraints for 'reference statements'.

I think this approach can be clearer to data consumers. What do you think?

Islands vs. administrative entities

2
Seav (talkcontribs)

I noticed that you ran a QS batch to add OSM relation IDs. In some cases you added the OSM relation ID for the island to the Wikidata item for the administrative entity. This batch probably needs to be reviewed. Sometimes the island has a separate Wikidata item from the administrative entity (ex. Jersey (Q785) vs. Jersey (Q15706498)) and these need to be connected to the correct OSM relation (island relation vs. admin relation). In other cases, the island is combined with the admin entity into just one Wikidata item (ex. Bonaire (Q25396)) and these might need to be split into two items and then connected to the correct OSM relations (island relation vs. admin relation).

Thanks, my original list of items from it.source is not totally clean, so I made some mistakes here and there. Will check it now.

No worries :)

Hi there! Thanks for bringing a citation. That one isn't appropriate because by having a social media account tied to a person on Wikidata, it would mean that account is official, which RMS denies.
