Deletion of claims in Q15731842 edit

Hello Nacaru and thank you for your contributions to Wikidata. In Felix Reda (Q15731842) I noticed that you have repeatedly deleted several occurrences of Felix' former first name. I understand that Felix obviously prefers to be called by his actual name, however, I do think that it is problematic to purge all references to his former one since these are needed to be able to lookup and research publications by and about him that were published before he made public that he prefers to be called Felix.
When a claim on Wikidata becomes outdated instead of deleting it it should rather be qualified with end time (P582) and the current value ranked as preferred. Therefore I think that this principle applies here too.

PS: If you are undoing other users' contributions please use the revert feature, so that they are notified. --Nw520 (talk) 21:45, 13 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Nw520. The reason I deleted them is because they were being imported into different wikipedia projects as current names. I understand your point, but I'm not sure the adjective "out of date" applies to deadnaming? Felix's deadname was included as a current "alias" in the AKA parameter too, which is not. In general, I understood those statements could be potentially problematic and was afraid someone would use them in a mischievous manner. Are there any guidelines as to the treatment of deadnames on wikidata? Nacaru (talk) 23:34, 15 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply, Nacaru. I have to admit, slightly ashamed, that I didn't know the term deadnaming before. I did a little digging around but couldn't find any guidelines for Wikidata and apparently there has been only one thread in the project chat which tangented this subject. For Chelsea Manning (Q298423), her deadnames were ranked as deprecated and qualified with reason for deprecated rank (P2241)deadnaming (Q97107245). In Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive/2019/04#Request for page protection one admin remarked that it is at least not unusual in Wikidata that deadnames are still used as aliases.
In a nutshell, I don't think that there's even clear consensus yet how deadnames should be handled on Wikidata. --Nw520 (talk) 00:02, 16 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
I see, Nw520. Thanks for being thorough (and quick!) with your reply. I'll restore the deprecated statements and will do a bit more digging into what to do with the alias one (which I find specially problematic). Nacaru (talk) 00:06, 16 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Tinkle Lite edit

Nacaru (talk) 19:23, 5 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
