ruso edit

Robin van der Vliet (talk) (contribs) 18:01, 22 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Mi aldonis ĉiujn vortojn, kaj markis "ruso" malrekomendinda. --AVRS (talk) 19:39, 22 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wrong merges edit

Before merging items, please check their statements. I have undone some mergers where completely different items were put together disregarding all given information. Andreasm háblame / just talk to me 01:31, 1 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Andreasmperu: The merges were not about completely different items, they were about the same item with just another gender. We have 2 properties that we can use to mark the name for other genders male form of label (P3321) and female form of label (P2521). Having 3 versions of the same relation is not needed, especially if they aren't even used at all. I made most of the gendered items, but I now see that they were not needed, because we have those 2 properties. The French Wikipedia is now using those properties to get the correct gendered form, without the use of additional items. Robin van der Vliet (talk) (contribs) 02:54, 1 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Do you also want to merge mother and father? I think merging of items with a different gender is wrong. --Fomafix (talk) 18:10, 11 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

The merge of Q11921506 and Q19756330 into Q3603531 is wrong. Q11921506 is the male grandchild (grandson), Q19756330 is the female grandchild (granddaughter) and Q3603531 is gender neutral male and female grandchild. Please demerge again. --Fomafix (talk) 14:09, 11 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I came here for the same reason. You seem to be ignoring warnings and keep performing wrong merges, as well as massive edits related to them. Even worse, with no consensus whatsoever. So please stop now. Andreasm háblame / just talk to me 07:25, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Andreasmperu, Fomafix: I am sorry for ignoring the warnings and keep on editing. I have started a discussion here to reach consensus first. Robin van der Vliet (talk) (contribs) 14:59, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
One last warning: stop with the mass edits. You're supplanting specific items for general ones without looking for any consensus. If you believe your system is the best option, present it to the community! Andreasm háblame / just talk to me 21:26, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
I didn't do any mass edits after my previous message and I already presented my system to the community. I am awaiting the discussion now... Robin van der Vliet (talk) (contribs) 21:28, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Kunstschilderes edit

Jane023 (talk) 22:27, 10 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Klaas `Z4␟` V17:36, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Telegram as an example for Subreddit edit

If it's a good example, it provides information that the other example that currently exists in the property don't provide? What information do you think that the example of telegram provides that the other examples currently don't provide? It seems like your examples are worse than the one in the property proposal. The property proposal has examples where the label of the item is not directly the name of the subreddit. ChristianKl (talk) 20:31, 25 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Given, that you didn't reply here, I take it that you currently don't have good arguments for why the example is valuable to be included and I remove it. ChristianKl (talk) 08:56, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Examples of parents that are neither male nor female edit

I'm currently thinking about creating a property proposal for "parent" that will be subclassed by both "mother" and "father". Given that you previously spoke about the need to be able to express parent relationships where the parent is neither male nor female, do you have good examples of notable people where that's the case? ChristianKl () 16:38, 2 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

The only non-binary parent I could rapidly find is a diety:
Yog-Sothoth (Q621413)The Nameless Mist (Q10575312)
But I am sure there are also non-binary parents already in Wikidata. Maybe you can find more with the Wikidata Query Service.

Gaku Konishi edit

Hi. You recently created a claim of date of death for Gaku Konishi (Q3850503). I'd like to add that info to en.wiki but that requires a reference. Do you have any good reference either in Japanese or, more likely, in Esperanto? Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 20:31, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have 2 references for it, but I am not sure if they qualify as good references. My first reference is this member list at the website of Academy of Esperanto (Q202479). My second reference is this Facebook post on the official account of Japanese Esperanto Institute (Q2629773). Robin van der Vliet (talk) (contribs) 21:19, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Both are pretty bad. :-) In combination, I think they're enough though. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 21:27, 21 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Lexeme:L1824 edit

Hi,

Thank you for the creation of Lexeme:L1824 (and well played for the Easter egg  ).

I've tried to add information for this lexeme but I'm not sure exactly how to structure it. This word is almost always in singular "braille", so I put singulare tantum (Q604984) (as a grammatical feature which is maybe not the best way to do it) but this word is sometime used in plural (eg. "the Latin braille and the Cyrillic braille are brailles"). In the end, we probably need a property for that (or several), but here I have no precise idea how to model it. Your idea are welcome (and feel free to revert my edits if you find them too strange  ).

ZEO edit

Hi,

I'm wondering, should Zamenhof-Esperanto object (Q75762) really be in instance of (P31)? Wouldn't it be better in an other property like heritage designation (P1435)? (or an other one)

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 06:49, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

I am not sure about heritage designation (P1435), since ZEO-ness isn't defined or designated by a group of people. An object is a ZEO, if it contains the name Zamenhof or Esperanto. Robin van der Vliet (talk) (contribs) 11:04, 28 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Metre/meter edit

Was there a discussion behind your decision to rename many units by changing "metre" to "meter"? I'm from enwiki where we are totally over that battle (en:WP:ENGVAR) but the reason I'm asking is that at least one template (en:Template:PH wikidata) was broken by that change. I agree that Wikidata and templates should be more resilient but they aren't. Johnuniq (talk) 02:49, 28 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

"en" is American English, "en-ca" is Canadian English and "en-gb" is British English. I made sure that all items containing meter/metre and liter/litre have the labels consistently set. Robin van der Vliet (talk) (contribs) 10:59, 28 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that but it makes sense. I see in a dump of the meter unit that there are still some inconsistencies, for example "metres" is an en alias and "meter" is an en-gb alias. However, the labels work as you say. I suppose there are tools here for a dump but I used {{#invoke:dump|wikidata|Q11573}} in a sandbox at enwiki. Johnuniq (talk) 08:21, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why remove the "prefered" language on authors ? edit

Hello,

I put "preferred" language on languages those authors wrote... because, they did not write in esperanto. By removing this preference, it is impossible to make a difference between the languages they wrote into, and those they only spoke or read.

This is really a problem to know which are the publishing languages for those. We use it on wikisource to know the writing (and thus) publishing language. Please stop it. --Hsarrazin (talk) 20:59, 6 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

First of all, those authors also wrote in Esperanto. And secondly, this property is for languages that those authors speak. There is no reason to put languages they wrote in as preferred. If you want a property specifically for that, you should propose it. Doing it like this causes problems for the Esperanto Wikipedia. Robin van der Vliet (talk) (contribs) 21:03, 6 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
when this property was initially introduced, it was for this purpose… It was modified afterwards, to add languages "spoken and signed"... and now, we have no means to know which languages authors "published in".
All those persons also have occupation (P106)->Esperantist (Q860918).
Now, on wikisources, all those people are categorized as "writing (publishing) in esperanto", which is clearly not true... I checked those, and they did not. This is really a problem, for wikisource, that need to know in which languages writers wrote.
If I make a property proposal for this specific purpose, will you support me ? --Hsarrazin (talk) 21:38, 6 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Same pri Jules Verne. Removings of P1039 edit

Hello Robin van deer Vliet. Why do you remove kinship to subject (P1039) several like this https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q36153&diff=prev&oldid=980157693&diffmode=source ? Doesn't that give the information a lesser value ? Best regards Migrant (talk) 21:50, 18 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Migrant: Because we already store gender with sex or gender (P21) on the item of the sibling. Storing it another time is just redundant. We also don't use qualifiers to store the birthdate or nationality of all the siblings, we store that data in the items of the siblings. Robin van der Vliet (talk) (contribs) 21:57, 18 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Okay, but where do we use the P1039 then ? BTW. I changed the sibling (P3373) for Beyoncé familyrelation to Solange Knowles to younger sister (Q10943095) and vice versa. Best regards Migrant (talk) 23:21, 18 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Nederlandse gemeenten edit

Antoni1626 (talk) 08:47, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Hansmuller: Hallo!

Hello.

Can you add the photo File:Martin_Koster.jpg from Wikimedia Commons in the Wikidata page of Martin Koster (Q2357514)? I could not do it because of technical problems in the internet from my cell phone.

Thank you, 31.200.16.254 22:50, 4 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

End time - no value edit

Hi @Robin van der Vliet, I came across this questionable edit (https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q27526271&diff=1028885905&oldid=1028872546) Is there a reason for this? I suspect this does more harm than good. RVA2869 (talk) 17:38, 27 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
