Fehlermeldung erbeten edit

Hallo TMg, kannst du mir bitte eine Fehlermeldung aufmachen? Folgendes Problem:

-- 32X (talk) 15:07, 22 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Merging items edit

Hallo TMg,

For merging items, you may want to use the merge.js gadget from help page about merging. It has an option "Request deletion for extra items on RfD" to automatically place a request to delete the emptied page. This way of nominating makes it a lot easier for the admins to process the requests.

With regards,

@Cycn: How can it be "a lot easier" if a script places the exact same template on the page? Can you please explain what exactly was wrong with my deletion request? Or, to be more precise, can you please explain what Special:MergeItems did wrong so the issue can be reported and fixed? --TMg 20:32, 23 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
It's a template I posted, so not all may apply. I thought maybe the gadget would be helpful, but it's just a suggerstion. I didn't know Special:MergeItems, but it seems simple enough, and it didn't do anything wrong. The gadget gives extra options when merging and also on the RfD page (possibly only visible to admins), so the result is easier to process. -      - (Cycn/talk) 06:40, 24 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Cycn: How can a gadget I use give you extra options? How is the result easier to process? I would really, really like to understand the difference. Does the "Add a new request" button at WD:RFD set the wrong template? Did I followed an outdated description? The only detail I can spot at the moment is that you turned my request around and deleted the other item, ignoring the fact that my action was well-considered and I wanted to keep the item that had more site links. Therefor I disagree with your decision, even if it doesn't really make a difference in the end. --TMg 08:32, 24 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
I don't know how the tools work, but when merge.js is used I see an option to delete the nominated page with a simple click. In some other cases this button does not appear, so the transfer may not have been complete, so somewhere there is still some data in the nominated page. Merge.js is not the only tool that results in this option and sometimes the buttons don't show at all because, for instance, the site is overly busy (or when I'm not logged in).
The deletion of the 'other item' is a different thing. I usually prefer to keep the lower numbered item, as it is older, but there may be reasons to keep the higher numbered on in stead. For instance: the higher numbered item has links to it, the lower numbered one doesn't. If you have a "well-considered" reason to have one kept, but you don't add it, it won't be taken into consideration and the result may very well be that the other item is removed, not the one you nominated. Merge.js has an option to keep the lower numbered item, regardless of the which item you are nominating from. If I see a higher numbered item should be kept for some reason, and I don't have the button to simply delete the nominated item, I switch off the option to keep the lower number for that merge. -      - (Cycn/talk) 08:44, 24 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Script help edit

Hello, TMg! I was wondering if maybe you'd be able to help with my request here: Wikidata talk:Tools#Go directly to item after saving? I'm asking you because I think maybe some of the methods you used in User:TMg/currentDate.js could be applied here – but that's just a guess, if you don't know how to do it then that's fine. :-) Jon Harald Søby (talk) 12:03, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
