Call for participation in a task-based online experiment
editDear Tcr25,
I hope you are doing good,
I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits.
I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue. The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.
If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link I will contact you with the link to start the study. For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.
Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Hi, there are two options. Either the image does depict the person. In that case the file cannot be deprecated, unless we have a better file. Or the image does not depict the person. In that case it has to be removed, not deprecated, and also be removed from Wikipedia articles. Jcb (talk) 15:34, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, Jcb, in this case, the image had been previous identified as Laveau but always with questions about that identification. It's now understood to be a portrait of an unidentified woman and not Laveau. I've removed the image in the past several times (both from Wikidata and multiple Wikipedia articles) but because of that previous association, it eventually gets readded. Marking it as depreciated (because the previous label exists) seemed to be the best way to cue people that the image isn't actually Laveau. —Tcr25 (talk) 15:44, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- The problem with that is that it will continue to appear in maintenance reports, so that users from various Wikipedia versions will keep restoring it. The only real solution is to remove it from the articles and remove it from the Wikidata item completely. I will see what I can do. Jcb (talk) 15:49, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- I came accross File:Marie Laveau by E.W. Kemble.png, do you think that would we a correct image on Marie Laveau? If that image is in the Wikidata Item, it will also prevent users from adding the other file. Jcb (talk) 16:00, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- That image, according to the illustrator, is of Laveau and her daughter. Her daughter rejected it as being accurate (saying that Laveau never sat for a photo or portrait), but it is an image that has only been ID'd as her. —Tcr25 (talk) 16:12, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, thank you! I removed the painting from about 15 articles, so I don't think that will ever come back. Jcb (talk) 16:27, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
- Merci beaucoup! —Tcr25 (talk) Tcr25 (talk) 16:28, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
