Babel edit

Babel lets you view and edit more than one language on Wikidata. Just add e.g. {{#babel:de-N|en-3|es-1|fr-2|nl-3|it-4|da-0}} to your user page. With the same language codes you can add links to your userpage on Wikipedia e.g. de:User:User123. --Tobias1984 (talk) 09:36, 26 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

fossil taxon edit

Hello Theklan,

We now have "instance of fossil taxon" implemented (almost thirty thousand items) for taxa described on the basis of fossil material. By combining this with IUCN's extinct, it should be possible to find out which taxa are extinct. - Brya (talk) 16:51, 20 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

-Theklan (talk) 22:25, 10 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ok, en todo caso, muchas gracias! --Davidpar (talk) 22:27, 10 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

sport (P641)=tennis (Q847) edit

Hello Theklan,

recently you added sport (P641)=tennis (Q847) to a large number of wikidata items which already possess occupation (P106)=tennis player (Q10833314). This is redundant, and therefore undesirable. A few years ago, there has been discussion about this matter, but I don't remember where or when.

Could you please program your bot to delete the property sport (P641)=tennis (Q847) on any items possessing occupation (P106)=tennis player (Q10833314)?

Thanks a lot. Kind regards, Vinkje83 (talk) 15:46, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello Vinkje83. I don't think is redundant, as many automatic templates are using sport (P641) for stating which parameters to show. For us in Basque Wikipedia this information is vital to show all the templates correctly. -Theklan (talk) 15:53, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I see. Well, that makes the redundancy unavoidable. I will stop removing this property. Vinkje83 (talk) 16:34, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Maybe it could use occupation (P106)=tennis player (Q10833314) but for this we would need a way to isolate items, and it's not so easy. -Theklan (talk) 16:37, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

The Dinner Party edit

You seem to be adding "The Dinner Party" to hundreds of items, including plays, people, and all manner of other objects. This looks wrong. --EncycloPetey (talk) 19:40, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@EncycloPetey:: It's not wrong, en:The_Dinner_Party is an artwork with a collection of 999 women and women related issues that can be compilled as a Collection. Look here. -Theklan (talk) 19:52, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
So why are you tagging plays among the list of women? You need to be sure you're tagging people/characters and not works of literature about those people. --EncycloPetey (talk) 20:05, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
It also looks as though you're misusing catalog (P972), which should be listed as a qualifier, not in it's own right, on the items you've tagged. --EncycloPetey (talk) 20:09, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@EncycloPetey:, because some of the women that appears in the catalogue are not women, but fictional characters or even novels. -Theklan (talk) 20:22, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
No, they're characters not plays or novels. There are different data items used for characters than for books or plays. And in any cae, "The Dinner Party" is an art work, not a catalog. --EncycloPetey (talk) 20:29, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
We have different approaches to this. And I think we are not going to convince each other. Is there a great disruption of functionalities if this catalogue/artwork is referenced via Wikidata? If so, you can mass revert everything, but I don't think so. -Theklan (talk) 20:32, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

items to merge? edit

Hi,

Aren't terminative allative (Q55862800) and allative case (Q655020) the same concept? Should these items be merge or not?

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 17:33, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@VIGNERON: Not really. In Basque we have three kinds of adlative and the adlative proper. Technically, they are different declensions. -Theklan (talk) 15:30, 2 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the explanation, I imagined it could be something like that.
In this case, maybe terminative allative (Q55862800) could be a subclass of (P279) allative case (Q655020)?
Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 17:13, 2 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Help us improving the user experience of Lexicographical Data edit

Hello,

I’m Jan, doing research on user experience in the Wikidata team. I’m currently discussing with people who are editing Lexemes, in order to understand their needs better, and improve their experience with the interface.

We noticed that you have been actively editing Lexemes recently (thank you for that!) and we would love to have a discussion with you about what you’re doing, how you work, what motivates you to create Lexemes, and how you imagine reusing the data later.

This discussion would take place as an individual interview with one of our designers. Via the communication platform of your choice, you’ll be able to share your screen, show how you’re currently editing the data and chat with us. The discussion would take between 30 and 60 min, we will set up the appointment depending on when you are available. Depending on your preferred language, the discussion can happen in English, German or French.

If you’re interested, feel free to reply to this message or send me an email: jan.dittrich@wikimedia.de.

If you don’t want to be contacted by us on this topic anymore, please let me know.

Thanks a lot for your help, --Jan Dittrich (WMDE) (talk) 16:02, 21 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Grammatical cas in Basque and translation edit

Ola Theklan! Could you add a translation in English (or at least in Spanish) to these items: terminative allative (Q55862800), destinative allative (Q55862897) and directive allative (Q55862884) so that labels can be translated into more languages (few people speak Basque language). Traducciones edit

Buenas Theklan.

-Theklan (talk) 15:18, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Mayors of France edit

Hi,

For every commune of France, there is an item for the mayor. Most of the time this item doesn't have a label in Basque. For the moment, only Mayor of Bayonne (Q28482399), Bayonne (Q134674), mayor of Bordeaux (Q27898073), Mayor of Le Neubourg (Q62075280), Mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine (Q61953099), mayor of Paris (Q12371988) and mayor of Tulle (Q61952793) have a label in Basque. For other language I added automatically (with QuickStatements) the label but here I'm not sure the Basque language work: is it always "name of the commune+ko + mayor in basque" and what is the most correct name in Basque for mayor: alkate, alkatea, auzapeza?

@Iñaki LL:

Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 07:46, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Mila esker/thank you VIGNERON for contacting us on this matter, hope your Wikimania was very productive! (We have just come back on Friday) The pattern you mention is good. However, there are exceptions: a "n"/"l" ending requires a "go" added. For example, Irun + ko = Irungo, Agurain + ko = Aguraingo, Idiazabal + ko = Idiazabalgo.
That is the regular pattern, but there are exceptions related to morphosyntactic considerations, as some place names take an "a" ending, considered as an article, and not part of the word's root, i.e. Iruñea (Pamplona), may inflect as "Iruñeko", for this suffix. Also Ermua > Ermuko. Not Donostia though, which is inflected as "Donostiako". There is a list of such municipalities, I would need to look up.
Another exception is the phonetic behaviour after tz/tx/ts endings, e.g. Zarautz, usually inflected as "Zarauzko" according to the namesake Basque language article. Off the top of my head, as a general rule: tz > z, ts > s, ts > s. Sometimes a liaison vowel comes into play, usually rendered in digital variables as "(e)", i.e. between brackets, but that is more of an exception, so I would not consider.
As for the the proper translation. It is generally rendered for standard Basque as "alkatea" (with article added at the ending). However, is it possible to add an exception for French Basque municipalities? ("auzapeza") This would be a good option for the Basque municipalities (speakers) who use this term in actual practice. Iñaki LL (talk) 09:47, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Iñaki LL: thanks for your answer. I'm also just back from Sweden (I took some days off ;) ) and yes, Wikimania was very productive.
These exceptions seems a bit complicated (what is the difference between Iruñea or Ermua and Donostia? can I find it automatically?) and I fear I would make some mistakes, so: could I let you do it? (it would be ~39000 of edits, but with QuickStatements it can be done in one click  ). As a start, here is the list of all item for mayors of France: https://w.wiki/7Rm
I also ping @Xabier Cañas: who changed the label from Baionako alkatea to Baionako alkate (Special:Diff/435322347).
Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 12:12, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hey VIGNERON, yes we were also on holidays and Wikimania has been very good for us. I think Xabier is right about "Baionako alkate", it is treated as a common name (without article). This is the list of names that follow the pattern of Ermua (>Ermuko): Azkoitia, Hondarribia, Olaberria, Berriatua, Busturia, Ermua, Etxebarria, Forua, Mallabia, Mañaria, Bizkaia, Arratzua-Ubarrundia, Asparrena, Erriberabeitia, Erriberagoitia, Harana, Urizaharra, Abaurregaina, Abaurrepea, Ameskoabarrena, Basaburua, Elizagorria, Ergoiena, Erromantzatua, Iruñea, Itzagaondoa, Mendigorria, Olatzagutia, Otsagabia. None of them is in French territory; note for example that "Ergoiena" would be inflected as "Ergoiengo". Note that Bizkaia is not a municipality. Thanks for the link to the automatic application! (I may try it:) Iñaki LL (talk) 14:32, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Joseba Egibar edit

Hi Theklan, it was my pleasure to attend your Wikimania session. I had a look at one of the examples you showed: Joseba Egibar Artola (Q3822687)

It seems that there are three Wikidata items for Gipuzkoa the political constituency: Gipuzkoa (constituency) (Q5564085), Gipuzkoa (Q28452114), Gipuzkoa (Q58214104).

Joseba Egibar Artola (Q3822687) currently uses Gipuzkoa (constituency) (Q5564085) but should probably be using Gipuzkoa (Q28452114)?

I can potentially run my pywikibot property migrator on something like this, and I suspect Gipuzkoa isn't the only Basque place with such electoral level crossover...

--Deryck Chan (talk) 11:15, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Deryck Chan: You are right! They should use Gipuzkoa (Q28452114). Also those using Biscay (Q4917218) should use Biscay (Q28452115), and those using Álava (Q8076636) should use Álava (Q28452113). This are the only three constituencies that should be changed! Thanks for noting it. -Theklan (talk) 11:19, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Let me try later today! Deryck Chan (talk) 12:24, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Did I get these right? Odón Elorza González Rafael Larreina Valderrama If that's right I'll set my script free to run the remaining cases. (P.S. González seems to be a really common surname across the Basque Country?) Deryck Chan (talk) 13:23, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
González is a commons surname in Spanish so it's really widespread (not the most common one, but very usual). Odón Elorza seems right, Rafael Larreina is partially right for Gipuzkoa (Q28452114), but not for Biscay (Q28452115). -Theklan (talk) 13:27, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
That would be correct for what I was testing. I only ran the script for Gipuzkoa. I shall set the script to run all the remaining Gipuzkoa items (and then Biscay, and then Alava). Deryck Chan (talk) 14:36, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello.

In the Wikidata page of "2021 Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption" (Q108601121), can you correct the end date of the volcanic eruption to 13 December 2021, the day it actually ended. The ending was officially confirmed after a waiting period of 12 days. 25 December is not the actual end date of the eruption. The wrong date contradicts the source which was added alongside it: https://www.ccma.cat/324/el-volca-de-la-palma-ja-dorm-el-rastre-de-98-dies-derupcio-del-cumbre-vieja/noticia/3137091/

object named as (P1932) edit

Theklan (talk) 12:34, 4 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Request edit

Hello.

Can you add the Emiliano–Romagnolo language article eml:Azerbaigiàn in the Wikidata page of Azerbaijan (Q227)? That page is protected and that is why I cannot add it.

Yes, I can! Theklan (talk) 07:36, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Question about the gender/sex of persons on artxiboa.mendezmende.org edit

Hi, I've been seeing some of the given name items you have made (in this case María Valentina (Q79607824)), and I can not figure out where the site makes it clear that the bearer is a man. Could you help me out? StarTrekker (talk) 12:55, 2 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Evidently, is an error. Thanks for noticing it! Theklan (talk) 13:36, 2 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Takes San Francisco (Biibao) edit

Kaixo!

He visto que has subido elementos alrededor de San Francisco.

Theklan (talk) 13:43, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
