DiffFixer edit

The known bug of diff pages is now solved, you can remove "User:Ricordisamoa/DiffFixer.js" from User:YMS/common.js.

Thanks! --Ricordisamoa 05:26, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

BTW, diffs aren't working again :\ --Ricordisamoa 17:16, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
If that's due to the rollback to wmf11, I guess the fix will be re-deployed soon. But thanks for both notifications anyway. --YMS (talk) 17:22, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Questioned deletion request edit

Just so you are aware, someone has questioned your deletion request at Wikidata:Requests for deletions#Q864599. They are unsure that the two topics are the same. Delsion23 (talk) 10:43, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for telling me, I actually wouldn't have noticed this otherwise. Commented on the case there. --YMS (talk) 11:35, 10 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mark newer Q-number for deletion edit

Hi, if you merge some items, like Q123 and Q12345, merge these to Q123, and mark Q12345 for deletion. It's always better to mark newer item for deletion, and keep the older entry here. --Stryn (talk) 13:12, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it's always better to merge to the older entry. At the moment, this probably won't matter too much, but once Wikidata is referenced from external sources (be it just linking to Wikidata items or reading data from them) on a notable basis, it may well be that Q12345 is the more heavily used one, especially if Q12345 contains the en link or much more site links or properties than Q123. As of now, merging to Q123 at least requires more edits/changes than merging to Q12345. This is why I usually merge to the item that has more site links and properties (or actually to the older one if both are about of the same size). --YMS (talk) 13:31, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

--YMS (talk) 07:54, 13 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations, Dear Administrator! edit

English | español | français | Nederlands |

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our gift is better than the one at Commons or Meta)

You have your gun; now here's your badge: {{User admin}}/{{#babel:admin}} and {{Admin topicon}}. Enjoy!

YMS, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Wikidata. Please take a moment to read the Wikidata:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Wikidata:Project chat and Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikidata-admin @ irc.freenode.net. If you need access, you can flag someone down at #wikimedia-wikidata @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading, although it doesn't always completely apply here at Wikidata. You may also want to consider adding yourself to meta:Template:Wikidata/Ambassadors, and to any similar page on your home wiki if one exists. (WT:Wikidata/Wikidatans on En-WP.)

Please also add/update the languages you speak to your listing at Wikidata:List of administrators. You may also like to add your username to this list if you would not like that items you delete at RfD get marked as deleted automatically. Again, welcome to the admin corps!

Re: Eddie Brock and Antivenom edit

Hello...yes, I was wrong because "Anti-Venom" in English there is someone in Italian user has opened the "Anti-Venom". No one has commented that did well to open or not to IMHO. Then nobody has opened the International Anti-Venom's page, then I had to cancel. I have something wrong? Eddie Brock in Italian we already but Anti-Venom International have not, if I'm not mistaken that Eddie Brock and anti-venom are always the same person, meaning that Eddie used Venom eventually changed its name to battle as Anti-Venom . :-) --Angelo.1961 (talk) 08:03, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

French labels just from English ones? edit

Hi. I see you setting French labels. However, I don't see how you determine them. E.g.for persons, do you just copy the English labels? This won't work in all cases. So fictional character Wilma Flintstone's french name is Wilma Pierrafeu, and e.g. real monarch's names might be translated as well, while names from non-Latin scripts might be transcribed differently. If my assumptions about your way to work are right, it might be a good idea to at least check other existing labels. E.g. in Wilma's example, German and Spanish labels differ from the English one, which does make it likely that another labels is not necessarily simply identical to the English one. --YMS (talk) 18:55, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi ! No I just don't copy labels from English ones but I take several languages into account from different cultures. For Flintstone as en,nl and it had the same labels, the name was copied. However, I think i'm going to take your idea to check for potential errors. Regards --Thieol (talk) 18:55, 15 september 2013 (UTC)

No idea about those useless Q items "I" created edit

I replied on my talk page. I have no idea what's going on, nor did anyone in #wikimedia-wikidata on IRC. JohnLewis helpfully deleted them all. Thanks for checking up. -- S Page (WMF) (talk) 19:45, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey there. I've just looked into it and it seems to have been a technical glitch of some sort that seemingly caused S Page's browser to insert those. Are you aware of a sudden increase of such empty Q entries to be created that might point to a wider problem? MPelletier (WMF) (talk) 20:32, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm not aware of any other items like this. However, I don't monitor WD:RfD (where at least some of S's items have been reported as empty items) too frequently. If there have been more items like these, someone has to have noticed it, as those items have not been completely empty (which is nothing special, as items often get cleared completely after being merged etc.), but had quite characteristic labels like "en-description" or "de-search-val". --YMS (talk) 20:40, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Greetings edit

I saw a note on my page about changing awikidata-item, without placing another link. Is there any chance of naming that item to me, otherwise I can't find out what I did wrong. Most probably there was a article wrongly linked to other articles with the same name. Maybe Fear of the Dark was the article and there was one that shouldn't be there. Greetings,Ceescamel (talk) 06:48, 29 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it was Fear of the Dark. You removed all sitelinks from Fear of the Dark (Q477065), while only the nl: link was incorrect (after you moved the nl: article, but that's okay, of course). You correctly linked nl: to Fear of the Dark (Q440330) (disambiguation), and then you created an unnecessary item Q14948237 (Iron Maiden album), where you only linked en: and the new nl: link. 24 other sitelinks for the Iron Maiden album remained unconnected, and the newly-created item additionally missed all items the one you blanked had. So I restored the links there and deleted the one you created as a duplicate yesterday. So I think everything is fine now again. I planned to leave you a second message after cleaning up, but obviously forgot about that, sorry. --YMS (talk) 15:17, 29 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your note. I rather panicked when I had to shuffle with the Iron Maiden album on the Dutch Wikipedia. I sought the solution via that article, but it was beter when I solved the problem via Wikidata. (correcting the dutch link). But then it was too late, sorry for the extra work.;Ceescamel (talk) 07:32, 2 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

There's usually no need to panic ;). And indeed, sometimes cleaning up a mixed-up interwiki mapping requires quite some work on Wikidata - but in many cases, just removing or moving one sitelink will solve the whole mess. --YMS (talk) 07:37, 2 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your edit at Q219937 Bonnie and Clyde edit

Hi! Please note Wikidata talk:Authority control. Do you know how to identify redirects at de.Wikipedia containing AC templates? Regards לערי ריינהארט (talk) 08:02, 11 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

There is no way to find such redirects directly in MediaWiki, as far as I know. However, it might be possible using the API, and it sure is when searching through a database dump (the AWB tool should be capable doing this, a custom script could, any database tool could after the XML dump has been converted to an SQL database): Just look for redirects containing de:Vorlage:Personendaten (rather than de:Vorlage:Normdaten, the AC template). However, Wikidata is not yet able to manage redirects properly (you can't add them, they only remaing where they are after you make a non-redirecting page a redirect; they are not marked in any way in the sitelinks list and I think they are also not used as interwiki links on the Wikipedia pages). Another way to find candidates for item splits is any article in the category de:Personengruppe (containing married couples, siblings, etc., though there also are sport teams, ethnic groups etc. which is of course too much here). --YMS (talk) 09:21, 11 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Commons-Link richtig eintragen / Q1581475 edit

Hallo YMS,

Viele Grüße--Duke Q (talk) 22:43, 6 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Du hättest an jenem Item also gar nichts ändern müssen. --YMS (talk) 08:08, 7 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Label Collector and Asian languages edit

There're some code to support Chinese dialects: [...]

位到 mean located in/situated at.

Disambiguation page edit

Please see my idea and suggestion there.--GZWDer (talk) 09:00, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

You're probably refering to such cleanup actions like what I just did with Q2687991. I believe I'm following the disambiguation page taskforce guidelines there, and by this I follow the RFC results, and, for the most part, your comment. Maybe our opinions differ in your last point. I guess we both agree that if en:Chinese and zh-yue:Chinese are linked together, rather de:Chinese should be linked to it than de:Chinesisch, and that ms:Cina should rather go to where en:Cina and five other "Cina"s are (Cina (Q1199366)), even if there is no ms:Chinese article that could go to Q2687991 as a replacement. But now you maybe would like to have e.g. cs:Číňané linked to Q2687991, too, as there as is neither another article matching that spelling, nor any other Czech article that could go into Q2687991 instead? I don't think so. Say if someone creates the article cs:Chinese, he probably wouldn't manage to correctly link it to Q2687991, as there already is a Czech link. Or from a reader's point of view, let's assume there would be an album, or a movie or something called "Chinese". It wouldn't be in the Czech disambiguation page, as the title simply isn't "Číňané". So maybe there even would be an article about that creative work in Czech Wikipedia, but I wouldn't find it, because I'm coming via the interwiki link from en:Chinese (the right place to look for it in enwiki) to cs:Číňané, where there is no link to it.
Or to put it short, we have disambiguation pages because the same word can refer to different concepts, and so we can't link them to each other on a concept basis, even if that would not conflict to preferably linking on a spelling basis in some cases. --YMS (talk) 09:27, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
You think that de:Courant should be linked to en:Courant or en:Current?--GZWDer (talk) 09:46, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Courant to Courant, always. Something like Côurant, Cou-rant or COURANT could be added, if there's no conflict with them. Current should never go to them. --YMS (talk) 10:11, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
So is zh, ja, ko links of Q223850 right? Should disambiguation page named after Chinese character be linked to disambiguation page named after Latin one?--GZWDer (talk) 10:18, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well, different scripts are the tricky part of these disambiguation page linking. The guidelines say that "Transcriptions (creating the same pronunciation with a different script)" should be added to an item. And so - by what I can tell - I think those links are correct. --YMS (talk) 10:23, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
So what to do with zh:域=en:Domain_(biology)/en:Domain of a function/en:Field_(mathematics)/en:Field_(physics)?--GZWDer (talk) 10:27, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
None of those is a disambiguation page, so they of course have to be linked by subject. --YMS (talk) 11:44, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
zh:域 is a disambiguation page means both domain and field in English. How should we link it?--GZWDer (talk) 05:00, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I didn't see that tiny one-letter-link ;), sorry. But the answer is: I can't think of a better solution than the current one: Just choose one randomly and ignore the other one. That's not a great solution, though... --YMS (talk) 06:53, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have relinked Current (above) , Q347048 vs Q344964 (a sample in Wikidata:Project_chat/Archive/2013/11#Disambig_page_link) and 19 sitelinks linked to Q13219783 (was a completely mix up item). However, Drakosha999 merged Q15623799 (one of items I have created while relinking) to Q44952, is it right? Now ru:Dragon (which was linked to Q44952) does not link to any items. See User_talk:GZWDer#Dragon_disambig. Also see User_talk:Drakosha999.--GZWDer (talk) 16:16, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, transliteration always is a tricky thing with this approach. ruwiki has a disambiguation page ru:Dragon and another one ru:Дракон (значения). If they transliterate to the same spelling, it's hard to tell what to do. However, the transliteration gadget suggests "Drakon" to be the transliteration of "Дракон", and there's an own item for this spelling (Q1127139). So, from a quick look (I have to leave now), I think your version was better than User:Drakosha999's. Ark sure looks better now. --YMS (talk) 16:34, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
So is it better to restore Q15623799 and link ru:Dragon to Q44952?--GZWDer (talk) 05:32, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Userpage deleted edit

Dear m(r)s. YMS,

You deleted User:151.40.217.225. What rule forbids us to create a user page? It's one of the few possibilities to keep ytack of our edits. The Wikimedia sites are proud of the slogan: Anyone can edit or something like that. A wee bit contradictory, right? Thank you for taking the time to read this and eventually answering. The latter is highly appreciated Kind regards from Italy,

151.40.185.160 01:00, 25 January 2014 (UTC) (a happy Infostrada client)Reply

P.S. See also Admin's bulletin board

If you don't have a user account, I don't see why you should have a user page. Especially as you're using a dynamic IP, as you where stating on the page itself, and as is shown in you switching the IP at least three times since yesterday (you first created User:151.40.194.126, then User:151.40.217.225, and now you have IP 151.40.185.160). So tomorrow, most likely someone else will have the IP you created a user page for. So you're basically creating user pages for other users. I also don't see how this should help you tracking your edits. When your IP changes again, the address of your user page also changes, so you have to keep track of your IPs anyway to find it again. If you find it, the user page does not provide any links to your edits made with another IP, so basically tracking fails if I don't miss out something completely (please tell me then). The possibility to keep track of your edits is one of the major advantages of registering as a user. The ability to create a user page is another, smaller one, though not directly related. You don't have to do register to edit Wikidata, but for the time being I think you should to create a user page. --YMS (talk) 09:04, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ciao YMS, The fun is I do have an account, but sometimes I choose temporarily not to use it. Should be allowed. We have free will, don't we? Our opinions differ here (that's an understatement ~_~) not to state that they are more or less the opposite. Again: show me the rule where is written that anonymous editors can't (I gave yet twice the proof that they can) make a user page nor that it's not allowed. Klaas `Z4us` V, developer of Wybe alpha. Danke schön, lieber YMS, 151.40.185.160 11:47, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

We don't have any explicit rules about user pages here at Wikidata, as far as I'm aware of, and so I deleted per Wikidata:Use common sense: Who doesn't have a user name does not have a user space, as the user space is linked to the user name. And setting up a personal user page for another user isn't something to do, though it happens when you set up a user page for a dynamic IP.
That said, in case you decide to recreate it (full text was: "Editor using a dynamic IP-address in Italy"), I won't delete your user page again at least until some public discussion shows consensus to do so. --YMS (talk) 13:18, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Label Collector often give false suggestion of aliases edit

for example, If opening "en" box of User:YMS/LC#Q47528, "RA|D|A|R" is shown as suggestion of aliases. This is because of bold "RA", "D", "A", "R" in "The term RADAR itself, not the actual development, was coined in 1940 by the United States Navy as an acronym for RAdio Detection And Ranging." Maybe this kind of suggestion should be removed.--GZWDer (talk) 15:06, 28 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

--YMS (talk) 14:46, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Lonsdale (Q579334) name origin edit

Hi,

Lonsdale (Q579334) is named after Lonsdale Belt (Q6674827), which is named after and created by Hugh Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale (Q976721).

So I fixed the properties on the relevant items like this:

Q7487886 edit

please check fa:سعید شنبه‌زاده item Saeed Shanbezadeh (Q7487886) should be human!Yamaha5 (talk) 20:58, 14 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

I actually wasn't sure about the Farsi article. Google Translate suggested that the text seems to be about a person mainly, however the lemma translated with "Shanbehzadeh Ensemble" and one category was Category:Musical groups established in 1990 (Q7215929). And as the English article definitely is about a band, I did what I thought was a correction on the item. If the Farsi article really is about the person only, then of course my change wasn't necessarily a correction, but then the item is wrong either way anyway, and it should be split up into one person and one band item. --YMS (talk) 21:18, 14 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yamaha5, could you please confirm that the Farsi artcle really is about a person (and possibly remove wrong categories in the article, maybe move it to another lemma, etc. - however, I don't care about this too much)? I'd then split the item. --YMS (talk) 16:25, 15 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Label collector tool, still not working :/ edit

Hello YMS,

I'm very aware that recent modifications on the site may impeach the repairing of the tool, but I would like to be sure before removing this one from mines, since it was really, really useful to put labels on all items I updated with the Wikidata Game, and I mean, thousands of people (which are quite simple to "name", but hard to systematically access, which was the main easy feature of your tool).

So please, could you tell me if you can/will fix it, or just let go, so that I know to remove the tool from the (very long) list of tools I have in the left bar. Thank you so much for your helping :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 11:16, 8 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Wikidata:WikiProject Names edit

Hallo YMS,

Die russische Seite Евгений (значения) ist dagegen mit Eugene (Q941482) verknüpft.
