@BrokenSegue:: thanks for reverting, but the editor has continued, this time being logged into their account. The IP address and the account obviously belong to the same editor, who repeatedly edited the same items and in the same time from their IP as the articles in Russian Wikipedia using their account, and the edits are similar in nature. They have already been warned (while in their account) here & here (in Russian, the language they do use) that it’s not allowed to delete or fake sourced data. — 188.123.231.25 17:31, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

What they mostly do is preferring birth dates from sources not authorized by any experts over birth dates from published sources up to encyclopedias. But in other cases it’s been a while and everyone seem to have agreed or not care, and editors’ consensus kinda allows that. That’s why i won’t be warring over their other edits. Unlike Boris Pasternak (Q41223) where i don’t think many encyclopedias’ point of view should be deprecated at all. — 188.123.231.25 18:32, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

We are tracking them in the Name Suggestion Index project. The items in NSI are generally retail chains, health clinics, transit systems, or other points of interest which are found in OpenStreetMap. These are generally entities which exist in the real world more than 50 times, so we consider them notable.

I note that, at the time of deletion, both items had a OSM Name Suggestion Index ID (P8253) claim, which is a Wikidata property for an identifier that suggests notability (Q62589316). Restoration of a deleted item

Request to restore items: Q109519154 and Q109479749 items for Club Toronto and Oasis Aqualounge were created as part of a project on documenting the history of Toronto bathhouses and were under development by a novice Wikidata user. Both these organizations were not created for promotional purposes and represent important sites within the history and culture of the city--especially in relation to LGBTQ+ rights. Please restore so we can bring into line with notability policies. Items were deleted on 11. Nov. 2021. References

The user @MasterRus21thCentury: has been pinging the WikiProject Properties each time he or she creates a new property proposal. The properties he are proposing are not relevant to the Properties project and several people have asked them to stop here, but they have continued to ping us. Can we prevent this? I want to express my own opinion here - I develop Russian topics in Wikidata, and in the wiki project Russia there are very few users working on Wikidata properties. Therefore, I make pings so that at least someone can express their own opinion regarding the proposed properties of Wikidata. Hi BrokenSegue & BRPever - Indeed there had been issues with that user on another project and originally they had emailed me which was fine ... up until the point where they then said "people are picking at a fleshless bone" which I thought he was referencing me as doing as I've been very vocal of this actions .... so after that I told him to have a great day (whilst biting my tongue) and muted any emails from him as thought that was the best way forward.

Anyway I would never usually defend such comments but in this specific case he only came to my talkpage to poke me and and to sort of gloat at his "actions" ... so in this very specific case he deserved that response. inexplicable editing

How can a normal user forward a deleted data object to another data object? Can anyone explain to me?

Tried it, yes it can. However, it does not undelete the revision history of the deleted item. It simply creates a redirect where no item was present before. It does not work if no item existed earlier, so Q100000000 or any future QIDs cannot be merged for instance.

@MisterSynergy: As it currently looks to me, it is not possible that the forwarding can then be used again as a data object. That would be a good thing because it rules out a certain type of abuse. Which of course could be a problem if someone has fun equipping data objects with redirects from deleted data objects that have nothing to do with the actual data object. The en-Wiki instance is described in en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Anshuman Tiwari Official, but it spreads over several wikis and has caused multiple global locks as well as local protections to be imposed. Given the length of their silence and the concerns accrued from others over time (and that the previous block in may was for maximum 168 hours rather than the six that have fully elapsed in this instance), I do not think the length of this current block is particularly unreasonable. It was not done "mistakenly". As I was already explaining to someone before, there are duplicate entries on Wikidata on disambiguation pages concerning surnames. In effect, the disambig pages on various wikis and interlinked together but the enwiki disambig page stands alone, as it is included in another, duplicate, Wikidata entry. For example sharath city capital Hyderabad got 2.7 million total area https://sarathcitycapitalmall.com/about-us/. There are lots of malls in India which got much bigger than 2 million in total area. Lulu malls official website clearly shows that 2 million or 185800 sq meter and the official designer of the mall is a Canadian company known as design international They show the mall got GLA of 0.66 million. https://designinternational.com/node. You cannot put lulu thiruvananthapuram malls GLA as 2 million sq feet as as GLA is only 0.66 million sq ft. 2 million is total buildup area not GLA. Thats shows wrong information and is completely against wiki rules. Most of the malls GLA area is shown here. But only for Lulu Thirvanathapuram the user Rajeshpalode007 is showing total area instead of GLA. This is showing wrong and inflated figures knowingly and cannot be allowed. This user is doing disruptive editing in wiki and putting wrong and inflated figures. In reality, this mall got only 0.66 million GLA or total retail space and 1 million total areas for mall.

In making the decision, he followed Silanoc's argument that articles from a relevant newspaper are relevant. I cannot follow this assessment myself, because we have relevance criteria here in Wikidata. The two articles mentioned above do not meet any of the three points, so how can they be relevant? I think the argument made here by @Silanoc was that they potentially met criterion 3 (structural need) because they could be used "for sourcing other wikidata elements". He is a template editor in the HeWP and his contributions are great. User:חיים 7 is not allowed to disobey a community decision in the HeWP concerning בורה בורה.

I am not a troll, neither. User:חיים 7 made an RFC in the HeWP and I did not reply it. Some HeWP users assumed that User:חיים 7 was partially right, because they did not know the facts clearly. They did not have clear evidences that User:213.137.65.244 was the blocked troll משה הלוי, because 213.137.65.211 (the same person) wrote it just a week ago. A HeWP administrator, who became a HeWP bureaucrat, wrote clearly in the HeWP RFC that there was a person who followed and harassed me endlessly. Afterwards, User:חיים 7 made two dispute votes in the HeWP concerning the item. Three users voted with User:חיים 7, but 13 users voted against it. More than it, User:התו השמיני, who was an administrator in the HeWP and voted with User:חיים 7, wrote that it voted with בורה בורה.

User:Geagea wrote more than once that the aliases have to be written in the item, and also addressed to this request. User:חיים 7 agreed with Geagea, but did not revert its own deletion. Worse than it, if בורה בורה or I return the version which Geagea did, User:חיים 7 will revert it again, because it is personally oriented against the item, as it wrote today in its edit summary in the HeWP (2nd time canvassing in less than a day), instead of writing it in the talk page of the item.

Unauthorized bot tasks carried out by Cewbot

Cewbot has been adding English aliases to several items based on templates from the Chinese and Japanese Wikipedia. The bot has permission to add Chinese and Japanese labels and aliases but now the bot is also adding aliases in English which is completely different from the original task (examples: 1, 2, 3). I have asked Kanashimi where this task was approved and how exactly it works but didn't get an answer (User talk:Kanashimi/Archive 1#English aliases). Instead, Kanashimi told me that they will modify the code so that the particular error I noticed won't occur anymore but yet the bot is still adding incorrect English aliases. Plaion (Q555273) is not Deep Silver (Q553658). Deep Blue is a subsidiary of Koch Media so "Deep Blue" shouldn't be an alias for Plaion (Q555273). The basis for this edit is the link {{le|Deep Silver|Koch Media#Deep Silver}} at zh:拳皇系列. The topic Deep Blue used to be an aspect of the article en:Koch Media with a separate subsection. Now that there is a separate article en:Deep Blue the link should be changed but generally speaking these kind of links are absolutely correct. The locality of Olivença\Olivenza is a de facto spanish territory but claimed as being the jure by both Portugal and Spain. This user removes the status of this as a disputed territory, removes the official flag and coat of arms (File:Bandera de Olivenza.svg and File:Escudo de Olivenza (corona mural).svg sourced from the spanish law and the Olivença\Olivenza municipality website), symbols similar to the portuguese municipalities to non-official versions that are similar to spanish municipalities, tries to remove any reference to its the portuguese name even from the portuguese language, tries to remove the history that this was de facto and de jure a portuguese territory from 1170 to 1801, tries to remove its portuguese name.

Before the edits of this user the only map that appear was one were it showed as being part of Portugal, but given the disputed territory i added the spanish first and the portuguese one in second place but this user tries to remove any mention of it being, to the portuguese state, de jure portuguese territory and this map. The problem, to this user, is any mention of its disputed status. To me, if this territory is de facto spanish it should of course be mentioned and its "spanish facts" appear in first place, but any attempt to remove it status as a disputed territory is almost vandalism.

Fir more info, this user has tried to rename in Commons to rename files from its portuguese filenames to spanish ones but every time several users have refused to do it, also in Commons as tried to change in portuguese descriptions the portuguese name to spanish ones (even when the files were uploaded by portuguese). Also this user is blocked in the spanish wikipedia for 6 months for edit wars and was already warned in Commons, by others, to not import edit wars to that project. Also when this user clearly doesnt know what he is talking that of me being a "portuguese nationalist" the locality São Domingos de Gusmão\Santo Domingo de Guzman (part of the Olivença\Olivenza municipality had a category in Commons, since 2008 and until a few days ago with the portuguese name "São Domingos de Gusmão" and this user moved to the spanish name "Santo Domingo de Guzman" that i did not opposed given the de facto situation on the ground, but this user also tried to supress any mention to its portuguese name that given the de jure dispute is not acceptable.

SilentSpike I am not vandalising these items. I am removing a large number of badly classified properties on Acts of Parliament in preparation for systematically re-applying them in a more accurate and more consistent fashion. I have done the same for Acts of the Scottish Parliament etc., so please let me get on with this in peace. They will be done in a few hours, and will not only contain more information but will do so in a way that is actually usable for cross-project purposes. @Theknightwho: I suggest in future work of this nature first performing additive changes as then it is much clearer what is going on and the items remain valid at each step of the process instead of losing their P31 statements. I would still class this as unintentional vandalism since blanket removal of valid statements is a questionable practice and there is no provided obvious explanation/documentation of the process (ideally changes would link to a bot permission request, project chat archive, user or WikiProject discussion, etc.). I hope you can see how from the perspective of a passing editor the large scale removal of many valid statements without first adding valid replacements looks like vandalism.

The reason for doing it this way around is because it made it much easier to track down the various inconsistent properties that had been added piecemeal to various Acts using the query service. Adding the properties first would make it much more difficult to track them down, as I wouldn’t be able to do searches for “all X with property Y, regardless of the value of Y” that were meaningful. Like in previous cases this person is trying, again to change the statement of nationality from british to welsh and descriptions in several languages from "British actress" to "Welsh actress", without any source or bad sources like today using discogs, an website that by its own statements is " is a user-built discography site. Everyone can contribute and update information as needed, so we can collectively catalog music and other audio releases.".

I have commented in this case as well, so I cannot act in admin role.
That said, there is urgend need to revisit the running QS batch:

May the reported user simply change the convention regarding English descriptions in spite of several complaints, or do we need to find formal consensus first? An RfC comes to mind here.
Quesotiotyo reported on their user talk page that the batch will run "1-2 weeks" continuously. This is usually bot territory, so a bot approval process seems appropriate as well.

I am not trying to bypass any rules, just trying to understand why I was blocked indefinitely without warning for "Running unapproved bot" when I was simply using a tool which is described at Wikidata:Bot requests as being "available to all users which can be used to accomplish the work without the need for a bot", a tool which I have used to perform over 2.7 million edits [12] without any previous issues. If the actual problem was with the content that I was adding, please show me just one instance where something that I added was either incorrect or not within the guidelines at Help:Description and I will happily undo those batches.

I hope to get this issue settled soon so that I may continue contributing in an efficient and effective manner.

How on earth were you blocked “without warning”? I can’t remember a single recent case with warnings by that many users. The bottom line is that you used (and still want to use, if I understand your comments correctly) bot-like operations to force through a new standard for descriptions without any form of consensus and without any real need (quite to the contrary actually). @Quesotiotyo: Unfortunately the Wikidata guidelines here are unclear. Many/most QS jobs are totally fine and require no approval. It's a question of scale and probability of objection which comes down to judgement. The bot policy cannot be limited to some technical means (i.e. it makes no sense to allow bots to operate indiscriminately if they send their updates through QS). The job you were running was very big (editing basically every human item), required the use of automated software to build the QS and was apparently controversial. To me this means it should request bot approval. I don't think getting approval for this action is onerous. I agree policy should be better written (the text you quote conflates the need for a software "bot" with "bot approval") and would encourage anyone with time to open an RFC to clarify the situation. The fact that you previously made large bulk edits without approval does not mean this batch was ok. A change of this size/controversy deserves discussion. Personally I think we should restrict QS further (e.g. require edit comments / require references where applicable / lower maximum size). BrokenSegue (talk) 14:39, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for the responses. They are helping me to see how a misunderstanding about the intent and extent of the edits that I was performing led to the block. I only wish that I had been given a chance to provide more clarity before such an action was taken. I would like to do so now with regards to several things that you mentioned:

I had no plan to edit basically every human item (which currently amounts to over 9.5 million); the end total was going to be around 670,000 people. This was in no way an attempt to "change the convention regarding English descriptions" or "force through a new standard for descriptions" (as others have conjectured above). On the contrary, I was following a convention that was already in use on almost half a million items.
I did not use any automated software to generate these edits. I wrote queries by hand to run at both QLever and WDQS and then used a text editor and spreadsheet program to filter and sort the data before copying and pasting each batch into QuickStatements, each time manually inspecting a sample of the edits for correctness before submitting and again while they were being carried out. Thus my objection to the allegation that I was operating a bot (which Wikidata:Bots specifically says "make[s] edits without the necessity of human decision-making") and confusion at being directed to Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot.

I hope that things are clearer for you now as well. If you still feel that this topic warrants further discussion, I will refrain from making any more edits of this kind until everyone has had their say. There is plenty else for me to work on in the meantime.

I still don’t get it: What exactly is your thought process that you think it’s okay to change hundreds of thousands of descriptions because of your personal preferences – even though there is strong opposition to this plan? Your response seems to be that (1) not all descriptions conform to convention and therefore you can choose another convention that you like better and (2) you might not technically need bot approval.
