Extract semantic terms ? edit

Hello, I'm a student and I'm doing my degree work about Wikipedia. I would like to extract particular wikipedia data with wikidata, however I am completely new and it's hardly for me to use it. I wondered if with Wikidata it was possible to extract precise semantic terms such as "wife of". I thought I might be able to have some help on your page?

Thank you very much in advance. Best regards -- Sarajeunie(discuter) ~~10 mai 2019 à 17:40 (CEST)~~

Bonjour @Sarajeunie:,

--— Sarajeunie. (discuter) 15 mai 2019 à 10:00 (CET)

  • @Sarajeunie:I'm not sure if the sequence is clear: Wikidata is here as it's hard to do directly in Wikipedia. Wikidata is partially built with such extractions from Wikipedia. --- Jura 10:01, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Outdated constraint still reported edit

The value-requires-statement constraint (Q21510864) on item for this sense (P5137) was removed almost a month ago, but I still see a violation for it e. g. on L46038-S1. Is that a bug? —Galaktos (talk) 20:19, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Thanks for letting us know. I tried purging the page but it had no effect. I created a Phabricator ticket for this issue. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 10:53, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

https:// prefix missing in WQS short url edit

In WQS, short urls are generated without the https:// prefix which have to be add by hand every time you want to share the url or save it in Wikidata. Could it be possible to add it automatically please? Thanks. Ayack (talk) 13:16, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, it's a known issue that will be solved at some point :) I mentioned it here. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 14:56, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Author and Title not shown with Artwork template on Commons edit

Hi, Please see c:Commons:Village pump/Technical#Author and Title not shown with Artwork template. I think this issue comes from Wikidata, as 2 files which the same ID here, but different data show the same behaviour. Regards, Yann (talk) 04:40, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Problem appears to be in c:Module:Artwork, which User:Jarekt has been developing. The sandbox version of the module, called by the sandbox version of the template, does not show the same problem. Jheald (talk) 07:26, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I deployed new version of c:Module:Artwork based on the sandbox. --Jarekt (talk) 12:26, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disconnect Wikidata item option for Special:MovePage (at Wikipedia) edit

Users at Wikipedia should have the option to disconnect the Wikidata item of a page when moving it. In some wikis it seems acceptable that pages are moved to something only vaguely related where the sitelink on Wikidata shouldn't be updated. Unless the item is disconnected, I think it happens automatically. --- Jura 10:01, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
This is a change that would happen on Wikipedia's interface. Since the Wikidata development team is not working on Wikipedia's codebase, I'm afraid there is not much we can do about it. Maybe this issue should be raised elsewhere, like on the community wishlist process or via a gadget on Wikipedias. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 10:55, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Possibly. As it has a negative effect on data quality at Wikidata, maybe it's something as the Wikidata community, we need to solve by ourselves. Sorry for bothering you with this. --- Jura 11:51, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mobile View issue edit

When adding a statement, you see a list of suggested properties after typing a phrase. If you scroll to the bottom of the list you see “more”. If you continue scrolling you see “more” again. In mobile view, I cannot click on that second “more”. It appears but it “bounces” back and is obscured by the frame. I cannot get it to remain visible on my screen. I cannot click on that second “more” so I am unable to see the additional suggested properties. Trilotat (talk) 16:10, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Trilotat:,
Can you give me more information about your setup (device, OS, browser)? We tried on Chrome on Android and couldn't reproduce the bug. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 11:53, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Messing in names items edit

Hello. There are problems with names items and these problems affect Commons categories:

  1. Many anonymous ruin English labels
  2. There are elements with unacceptable English names like Galina (Q123699)

Please solve.Thanks David (talk) 11:24, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
Thanks for raising these issues. However, I'm not sure what the development team can do about it, since we're talking about content and not software.
If you're looking for help from the community to fix errors, feel free to post on the Wikidata:Project Chat or on the Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard.
If you have suggestions about tools that could help fix these issues, feel free to raise them as well. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 10:33, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

normalistation in the Lua API mw.wikibase.getEntityIdForTitle edit

It’s a minor issue, but it seems that mw.wikibase.getEntityIdForTitle in the lua API does not attempt to normalise the title-string to a mediawiki one. Does that mean we always have to normalize the title (for example using mw.Title.getTitle("",title-string):text) before calling ? author  TomT0m / talk page 11:45, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Increase Wikidata Query Service timeout edit

More and more queries fail due to timeout on Wikidata Query Service. Would it be possible to increase execution time please? Ayack (talk) 10:57, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ayack,
Could you give us a few examples of queries that timed out recently? Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 14:16, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Lea, this one for example. I have to run it at least 15 times before having the results instead of a timeout. Ayack (talk) 16:01, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Here is another pretty simple one (category items without sitelinks). It used to work most times with execution times close to 60 seconds until February, and times out practically always since then. The absolute number of category items has not changes significantly since then, it is pretty constant at 4.3M. --MisterSynergy (talk) 16:33, 10 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Lea Lacroix (WMDE): Another one which worked fine yesterday but no more today. Ayack (talk) 08:35, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Watchlist and Wikidata edit

Hi all! I have a little proposal regarding a gadget related to Special:Watchlist and I thought this would be the best place to propose it (if there is a better place, please let me know!). My proposal is: if in my watchlist I have an item, and someone adds to this item a sitelink, would it be possible to add automatically the sitelink to my watchlist in the project to which it belongs? Obviously, the gadget should allow the user to choose to which project apply this automatic addition. E.g. If I select as projects "itwiki" and "itwikiquote" and I have Neoptolemus of Parium (Q11938592) in my watchlist, when itwiki sitelink is added, I have it added automatically in my watchlist on itwiki. I think many users would appreciate a gadget like this: it allows you to watch through Wikidata if someone creates in a language you know articles you are interested in. Thank you very much in advance! --Epìdosis 10:27, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe a page for gadget proposals should be created? --Epìdosis 13:10, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
