Wikidata Lexicodays, 28-30 June 2024

There are many ways you can contribute to this event, help newcomers to get around Wikidata and make the contents accessible to your language community! Feel free to have a look at the tasks below, and don't hesitate to contact Lea Lacroix (WMDE) if you have any questions or suggestions (lea.lacroix_ext@wikimedia.de or @Auregann on Telegram).

Translate the documentation pages

edit

You can translate the pages of the event and the documentation pages for Lexicographical Data in your languages. If thes

e pages are marked for translation, in desktop view, you will see a link "Translate this page" appear at the top

of each page.

Translate the video captions

edit

Some sessions will be available in advance as videos on Commons and Youtube, so people can watch them at their own pace. All videos are in English with English captions provided. It would be immensely useful if you could contribute to make these materials more accessible by translating the captions to your language(s) on Wikimedia Commons.

Videos will be available in the Commons category Lexicodays 2024 videos. For each video, here's how you can translate English captions to another language:

  1. Go to the file's page on desktop version
  2. Click on the "TimedText" tab (next to "File" and "Discussion")
  3. Pick "en - English" and click on "Go"
  4. On the page, the source file of English captions are displayed. Copy/paste the content to a text file on your computer, save it in order to avoid loosing your work.
  5. In this local file, replace the English content by your language (keep the formatting and time codes identical)
  6. Once your file is ready, go back to the TimedText page of the video, and this time, pick your own language, then "Go"
  7. In the field, paste the content of your translated file, and publish
  8. Check the video file to see if captions appear correctly

If some videos do not have English captions yet, you can also create them from scratch.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Run a self-organized session in the program

edit

We have a few slots in the program available for community self-organized sessions. Update: the deadline was June 20th, it is not possible to propose sessions anymore.

Formats
We particularly encourage two formats: introductions to Lexicographical Data in a language other than English and modelling practices (discussion about data modelling for a specific language). You can find the slidedecks to adapt and translate below. Other formats and discussions are welcome as well.
How to propose a session?
Please add a new section to the event talk page, reusing the template at the top of the page. When you're done, please ping @Lea Lacroix (WMDE): for review of your proposal. When accepted, the session will be added to the schedule by the organizers.
Your session is self-organized
While most sessions are taking place on Zoom, the self-organized sessions (after 18:00 UTC/GMT) will take place on Jitsi. Anyone can join the Jitsi room without registration. The organizer needs to be logged in on Jitsi to open the room. The Lexicodays organizers from Wikimedia Deutschland and Indonesia will not supervise the sessions and will not necessarily be present. The session proposer needs to organise the presentation, facilitation and notes on their own. No recording provided, feel free to organize your own.
