Black tie / Tuxedo

Items involved: Q44928Talk, Q4668625Talk Status:     resolved

Could someone help sorting out which of the items at Black tie actually belong at Tuxedo? The old interwiki links are a mess, English WP has two separate articles but it seems most projects treat this under one article. Jafeluv (talk) 17:09, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

I have separated most of the articles. However, articles in Banjar, Spanish, Korean, Nynorsk and Portuguese were a bit ambiguous for me to allocate. --Wylve (talk) 17:34, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
I put the nynorsk one in Q4668625 tuxedo. It's talking about a piece of clothing all the time. Enoirditalk 14:06, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Went through and checked all of the Q44298 articles, fixed one, plus removed local interwikis on each article (that sure was a chore!) so that these correct – or at least more correct – ones would replace them. Can this be called resolved now? Enoirditalk 17:32, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

List of freshwater aquarium fish species

Items involved: Q1467362Talk Status:     resolved

This mixes lists of freshwater aquarium fish, lists of aquarium fish in general, and some I can't tell which they are. English has a split between Q1467362, Q3785398, and en:List of brackish aquarium fish species, and other language editions don't necessarily follow that model.

Solved by creating a new item for lists of aquarium fish in general at Q6560132. Then moving general lists to this item from the one of freshwater fish specifically. The marine item is fine. I created a new item for brackish fish as only English seems to have an article on it. It is located at Q6560396. Delsion23 (talk) 22:55, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Q4990607/Q4990615

Items involved: Q4990607Talk, Q4990615Talk Status:     resolved

Q4990607 deals with people who sharpen knives, but some of the links (e.g. tr:Zımpara taşı) might refer to Q4990615 (en:Grindstone (tool)) or other sharpening tools. I would have solved this myself, but my Turkish and Tamil skills are somewhat limited. :) --Silvonen (talk) 19:05, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

A few links were moved, but the Danish and German moves seem incorrect to me. Related issue: Q1368886 appears to be overlapping with Q4990615 at least partially. --Silvonen (talk) 23:22, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

These are both putatively about a football award, I get the sense that many of the links of the former aren't, but someone else could help sort this one? Thanks. --Joe Decker (talk) 23:48, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Q2523080 was also implicated, and I merged all of its contents to the other two. There are two slightly different awards here; one ended in 2009, replaced by "FIFA {same award}". Some articles deal with both awards as a continuous list; some Wikipedias split into two articles. I moved the more obvious articles that dealt with both awards to Q2291862, and Q166177 is valid for the award that ended in 2009. No perfect answers here but the major language Wikipedias tend to have entries for both. Espeso (talk) 06:29, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

I believe that the Russian article in Q44554 referred to "prosecution" specifically and so I moved it to its own item at Q6559173. Meanwhile I merged the two items and put the higher numbered one up for deletion. This should have fixed it. Cheers! Delsion23 (talk) 22:34, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

It looks really same but not same, English Wikipedia has en:Template:Recentism and en:Template:Update two templates, but as you know, the bots always ignore the interwiki link except article. I can't read all the languages to fix the disorderly links. tntchn Comment · Contri's 03:57, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

I looked through all of these with mostly Google Translate and deduction. I moved ko:틀:낡음 to Update and it:Template:Recentismo to Recentism, and added fi:Malline:Korjattava/päivitys to Update. os:Хуызæг:Сног кæн was seriously difficult due to not many Ossetic dictionaries online. These articles are the same topics, yet zh has them split into two items, one the "cancelled" game and one the game yet to be released. If there is someone who knows zh, a merge of those two items would be fantastic, preferably to the 2013 article. --Izno (talk) 22:13, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

The zh:命令与征服:将军2 is the cancelled one, so I put zh:命令与征服_(2013年电子游戏) to Q2985699 and zh:命令与征服:将军2 to Q2153480. tntchn Comment · Contribs 10:30, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Q52/Q5296

Items involved: Q52Talk, Q5296Talk Status:     resolved

Hi ! First, Sorry for English ^^ Problem : lang = nv
nv:Wikiibíídiiya (Q52 = Wikipedia article) and nv:Íiyisíí_Naaltsoos (Q5296 = Main page of each Wikipedia) are the same page on nv.wiki : strange... But I don't know how to resolve this conflict // see also. Thanks --Hawk-Eye (talk) 16:26, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi, the Navajo main page seems to be already included in Q5296 (the main page item), where it belongs (this fixes the French Wikipedia edit thing). nv:Wikiibíídiiya is a redirect to the main page, which in this case means that there just is no actual article on Wikipedia itself. Not every language has an article on Wikipedia, depending on the local community. If the Navajo Wikipedia decides to create an article on Wikipedia, however, then it should be added to Q52, but as of now, there is simply nothing to add. So, there is in fact no conflict.
By the way, your English was fine. Regards, Enoirditalk 17:42, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for all these informations  . So I can delete the Navajo link in fr:wiki. Best regards — Hawk-Eye (talk) 17:52, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Both refer to the number 10^9  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Helder.wiki (talk • contribs) at 19:37, 7 March 2013‎ (UTC).

Hmmm. This is the puzzling one. It looks like in some wikis there's one article on the term "one billion" and another on the number? — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 22:13, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
From what I can understand, they are all partly about the number, but some mix it with some linguistic considerations. I think a simple merger is ok. --Zolo (talk) 22:50, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
The problem is that a merger is not possible as some languages have articles on both. If anything it looks like the mergers should occur on each of those languages, but it's not Wikidata's place to tell Wikipedias what to do with their articles. If it can be worked out which the articles refer to (term or number) perhaps they could be separated into 2 categories. But I'm sure that some articles in other languages cover both the number and the term in the same place. Delsion23 (talk) 22:28, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Q6488912 discusses the painting of the event described in Q6495849. The only two wikis where I've found articles on both is sk.wp, but it occurs to me that some of the articles in the former might be better suited to the latter. However, Google Translate isn't great on these Cyrillic languages, so I don't think I can sort them out on my own. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 00:44, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Found another item: Q478271 which is more about the painting. And Q6488912 was mainly about the letter and the event (with exceptions of en & sk). So I've separated and now Q6495849 can be deleted.

Items involved: Q28922Talk, Q28753Talk Status:     resolved

Here are some scrambled links that I can find:

My understanding (knowing little in ornithology) is that the wider Passeridae (Sibley) family includes the Passeridae family, which is in turn larger that the Passerinae sub-family, which includes the Passer genre. They are all called by colloquial names such as en:sparrow in English. Frankly I don't know how to put this right at this point. Place Clichy (talk) 19:31, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

From what I can see, some articles are about "Passeridae" the family at Q28922, some are about "Passer" the genus at Q28753, and two are about the subfamily "Passerinae" which I have put into a new item at Q7369467. I think that resolves the conflict. All the items appear to be in the correct place. Thanks. Delsion23 (talk) 19:49, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

The interwiki are consistent across languages. However not all articles refer to exactly the same thing. English Wikipedia, and most others are about advertising columns in general while French is only about "Morris columns", which is a subset of advertising columns. As far as I can understand, the Vietnamese article has the same scope as the French one, while Russian and Ukrainian articles are also called "Morris columns" but have a somewhat more general scope. --Zolo (talk) 20:43, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Correct. In French, the columns are named after the guy who happened to be the first to take them to France. The French article itself acknowledges this, albeit briefly, and there is no other conflict. Enoirditalk 13:46, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Q1350 (Opel Astra / Chevrolet Viva)

Items involved: Q1350Talk Status:     resolved

Most site links go to Opel Astra (full model series), while nah: goes to Opel Astra F (first generation only), and fr:,ru:,uk: go to Chevrolet Viva, which is a rebranded Opel Astra G (second generation). Additionally, most labels are "Chevrolet Viva", even if the site link in the according Wikipedia goes to Opel Astra.

Dealt with the Astra F link. I'll poke at the rest in the next half hour. --Izno (talk) 21:02, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
Things should be good. I split the Chevy Viva to Q8038350 and uploaded some new labels. Only thing questionable to me is the de link at Q622959 which covers both the Kadett and the Astra. Otherwise, resolved. --Izno (talk) 21:43, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, if German Wikipedia decided to handle Astra and Kadett together, as the Astra replaced the Kadett and overtook its model "numbering", there's nothing we can do about this, so all is fine here. Thanks a lot. --YMS (talk) 21:58, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Items involved: Q679108Talk Status:     resolved

"Strassenbahn Basel" is the big general article about Basel tramways while "Basler Tramlinien" is a list article of all tramlines. "Strassenbahn Basel" and other wiki articles are connected tot Q679108. "Basler Tramlinien" has its own private links. The links are not working correctly: if I start with "NL:Tram van Bazel" --> DE --> NL it is correct. However if I do NL --> FR --> DE I arrive at "Basler Tramlinien". All links to DE, except NL --> DE, link to "Basler Tramlinien". What is going on?

In this case you have an 1 - N relationschip with two German articles. It should be assymetric: "Basler Tramlinien" ---> (no-wikidata link) ----> XX:other language" ---> "Strassenbahn Basel". Smiley.toerist (talk) 10:24, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Not sure I got it right, but the mess was probably caused because the Title on Wikidata said "Basler Tramlinien", but its de-Link was to Strassenbahn Basel. --PaterMcFly (talk) 21:47, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Items involved: Q415000Talk, Q1364662Talk Status:     resolved

"Quaglia" is Italian for "quail", and thus it:Quaglia (disambigua) disambiguates both the species of bird and the proper noun (it's used as a last name, it appears). The problem is that in languages where the words aren't synonymous, any disambiguation pages are separate - en-wiki is the only one I've found so far that has pages for both Quaglia and en:Quail (disambiguation), but that's enough to create a problem. Since we need two separate items (in light of the two en-wiki pages), it's simple enough for most of the links: If they're about the bird (or other common-noun uses), put them at Q415000, and if they're about the name (or other proper-noun uses), put them at Q1364662. But, what I'm stumped on is what we should do with the it-wiki page. Does it get grouped with the common-noun pages or with the proper-noun ones, or does it get an item of its own? I'm inclined to say we should put it with the common noun ones, on the grounds that the proper-noun usage derives from the bird's name, so it should be considered the "parent" disambiguation page, so to speak. Thoughts? — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 07:54, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

I would have to agree, unless someone thinks of a better idea. -- Ypnypn (talk) 22:28, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
I moved italian item from Q415000 to Q1364662, because for the disambiguation isn't important the meaning of the word but is more important the "form". If I search en:Fernando Quaglia, I type "Quaglia" not "Quail", so disambiguation must be all the same. This is my opinion and opinion of some other italian wipedian :) I think that co:Quaglia must be move to Q1364662, ja:ウズラ (曖昧さ回避) need a new item and tl:Pugo (paglilinaw) need a new item. --ValterVB (talk) 23:09, 3 February 2013 (UTC) Add: I'm not sure for japan --ValterVB (talk) 23:14, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Yep. A 6-way7-way8-way conflict. I've done a significant amount of work to resolve it; normally I'd trust my own judgment and say I'd taken care of it, but I think this situation is anomalous enough that I should report it here so that others can check my work. The most notable decision is probably my choice to give the Russian article its own item (Q6133589). The simple answer is that I couldn't find any item that approximated the topic closely enough; obviously if anyone can find a better solution, I welcome it. Anyways, if anyone has any questions about decisions I made to put certain articles in certain items, please do ask. Thanks. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 12:09, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Just added Q6198974 to this, a disambiguation page on the term "Razzia". — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 23:54, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Q257931 had a mishmash of articles, some of which were about provocation and some about sting operations or something similar. Thus, I created a new item. The old one, Q257931 provocation, now has the articles on provocation. In the new one, Q6283446 sting operation, I put the three articles on sting operations and similar stuff from the provocation item, plus added the similar-themed pages found in the interwiki links of these articles (having checked them). I say similar because I'm not sure if they are actually the exact same thing.
So it's 8-way now. On another note, the disambiguations Q6132400 provocation and Q6198974 razzia seem to be fine.
Continuing about conflicts, the articles in Q6130595 police raid don't quite match. The English one is about a tactic specific to early morning; at least sh:Racija seems to be about, basically, any police operation that is unexpected. sv:Razzia is about systematic police inspections of an area (or an apartment). The Finnish one is about both police raids and military raids – well, frankly, it has some serious trouble deciding what it should be about. Haven't looked into the others in detail yet. Yeah, the English article is awful. I've been meaning to boldly slash a lot of it. The emphasis on the early morning seems to me to be largely POV/original research. I think that in cases like these we are within our rights to categorize the article according to an idealized version of it, not the crappy current version. So even if the police raid articles are somewhat disparate, I think we're better off to have them all together than not. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 22:01, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
I went and edited the Finnish article a little to make it recognise police raids as its main subject (this was supported by its categories, stub marking and disambiguation notice, too). And looking through all of these items, I'd say a whole seven of them, all but Q6128777, are completely fine and in no more conflict. I'm not sure about Q6128777. Is it supposed to be specifically about the Arabic/religious raids? Some of them seem to focus too much on raids in general, while the English one specifies itself to be about both the warriors and the war, kind of dividing the article in two and yet being named after the warriors. Since Q6133589 is merged to Q494497, I mark this as partially resolved. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:08, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Also taking the history of the items in consideration, I'd say there is not any more a conflict. Marking as solved. Q.Zanden questions? 15:01, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
