P9788 (P9788): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs)
This is an ill-thought through property, which purports to serve to list the venues at which artists have played. Many artists have performed at hundreds or thousands of venues. Many have performed multiple times at any single venue. To the extent that it is useful to know the venues at which an artist has played, that need can be met by an event/gig item, which serves to link the artist to the venue, and provides for a date for the occasion.
An easy rule of thumb on wikidata is that if a property has the capacity to take hundreds or thousands of values on a single item, and the information can instead be stored in a series of discrete items, then it is always more sensible to model the ontology to use discrete items - here, events, gigs - than to seek to replicate a list within a single item. —Tagishsimon (talk) 01:40, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
