Number of IDs in sourceThe overall count of ENI numbers is not known to me, but there are more than 6.100 vessels by ENI number at Wikimedia Commons

The ENI number is a unique, eight-digit identifier that is attached to a hull for its entire lifetime, independent of the vessel's current name or flag (in contrast to the name, which is not unique and might change over time), which makes it a good candidate for a property. Similar to IMO ship number (P458) but with the scope on inland ships in Europe, which in most cases do not have a IMO number. The ENI number must be displayed on the sides and stern of the vessel, and because of that the ENI number is much more helpful to identify a ship than MMSI (P587) or call sign (P2317) when you spot a barge in the wild. -- Reise Reise (talk) 20:19, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
