Motivation edit
The provenance of artwork could recorded on Wikidata, considering date, oldowner, newowner, type of owner's change. These data could be transfered to the template artwork on commons. (talk) 11:03, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Comment @Bukk: Wikidata is useful for structured data, but it sounds like you are trying to fold several different pieces of information into one property here. Maybe the best approach would be for each instance of provenance to create a new item "provenance of XYZ artwork" and attach these various structured properties to the new item, then link the artwork to that item with a "provenance" property? I don't think the sort of text field you are proposing would be acceptable. It's possible what you need could be done with a main value and qualifiers though - if you could fill out several examples in detail that would be very helpful. - Agree with Arthur - I think we are able to model provenance using existing properties on the item itself - a series of owned by (P127) statements with start time (P580)/{P|582}} qualifiers and has cause (P828)/end cause (P1534) qualifiers to show how ownership was transferred. I'm not sure a text provenance statement would be appropriate for WD. Andrew Gray (talk) 22:29, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
