Motivation
editFBref (and the broader Sports Reference network of sites) is a well-known, useful, trusted site for soccer stats. Being able to link to box scores from Wikidata would be very useful. FBref has pretty broad coverage. In particular, they claim to be the "most complete sources for women's football data on the internet", and based on poking around and comparing to our existing identifiers for football matches, I'm inclined to believe them. For example, compare their report for this 2013 NWSL match to the same match on Soccerway, Flashscore, and ESPN; FBref's report is the most complete.
Most of the existing sites we have properties for are more focused on recent matches, and their historical data seems to be less well-curated. Transfermarkt is an exception to this, but they only do men's soccer. I think FBref match reports would be a valuable addition to Wikidata not currently matched by any other identifier. –IagoQnsi (talk) 23:36, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
