Gazetteer for Scotland place ID edit

Motivation edit
The Gazetteer for Scotland, first released in 1995 and continuously extended since then, provides editorially researched encyclopedic entries for over 23,000 areas, places, and features in Scotland. As well as the summary pages that would be directly linked by the IDs, additional tabs on the right of the pages give access to further information (including cross-references to related places, people, and events), to a map (including flags for related places), and often to a lengthier historical gazetteer entry. Matching between the site and our items would be a very useful cross-reference for our coverage of places and other geographical features in Scotland. Jheald (talk) 10:53, 23 September 2019 (UTC)

- How many sub-types are there? I note that, for the example given of Dumfries and Galloway (Q126514) → councils/councilfirst7, there are alternative URLs including https://www.scottish-places.info/councils/morecpix7.html and https://www.scottish-places.info/councils/councildetails7.html so it may be better to store just "7" as the ID. - @Pigsonthewing: Hi Andy. As far as I know, the geographical sub-types are the five given above: "towns" (for settlements of all sizes), "councils", "counties", "parishes", and "features". There are also "people", for which I have proposed a separate property; plus a limited number of "events", which I don't propose to match. Whilst it would be nice to just have the numeric parts of the IDs, five separate properties for the geographical elements seemed to me to be too many, so that's why I suggested the scheme above. - Question I made changes to your proposal. Would that be okay with you, @Jheald:? —Eihel (talk) 12:18, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Eihel: Regex looks fine. And the name change makes sense. Thank you! Jheald (talk) 12:24, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
