Motivation

ICD-10-CM is a public domain diagnostic classification, and a modification of ICD-10 (P494). It is used in conjunction with the procedural classification, ICD-10-PCS (P1690).

Currently, it is only used in the US. However; some Wikidata items, including the given example, have had ICD-10-CM codes listed as ICD-10 values. Because the ICD-10 external identifier links to the WHO's online version of ICD-10; when a user clicks on a code that only exists in ICD-10-CM, a "not found" message is returned to the user. There is an added risk that these could be presented on (non-English) Wikipedia articles that populate their medical infoboxes with information from Wikidata.

Even as a non-US coder, I can see the value in having the ICD-10-CM codes listed; but, I believe, it's inappropriate to use the ICD-10 property to do so. Little pob (talk) 18:43, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@ArthurPSmith: Sorry, I'm relatively new to Wikidata, and I'm not quite sure what you mean? The G47.52 value given at the ICD-10 identifier for REM sleep behavior disorder (Q2103933) is an ICD-10-CM code. The correct ICD-10 code/value is G47.8 (other specified sleep disorders).
