Planned use	The property will be added to the languages that exist in Wikidata to link them to their corresponding entities in LinguaLibre. Also, this property will be used in the recordings of Wikimedia Commons to link them to their corresponding entities in LinguaLibre (for those who don't know, the recordings that are created through Lingua Libre are stored in Wikimedia Commons, so the files are in Commons, but they have an entity in Lingua Libre).

Motivation edit

Lingua Libre (Q60024037) is well known among language enthusiasts. As far as I know, Lingua Libre has an item for each language someone has created a recording in. Therefore, this property would be used in multiple languages.

Why limit it to languages though? That would limit us to linking 717 items, when it could otherwise be used for the tens of thousands of references like Q60386475#P443 and the several hundred thousand audio files in commons:Category:Lingua Libre pronunciation. For the record: I would be opposed to creating a property only for languages - there are not enough items where that would be useful, especially when Lingua Libre already contains links from their items to ours (and they even have a SPARQL query service which can be used in federated queries). - Nikki (talk) 08:59, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  @Ainali: I think Nikki refers to storing the LinguaLibre identifiers for the recordings in the structured data at Wikimedia Commons (for those who don't know, the recordings the users create at LinguaLibre are actually stored in Wikimedia Commons). Either Nikki referred to this or not, this is still useful, so this property shouldn't be limited to LinguaLibre languages. --- Rdrg109 (talk) 01:15, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You can get the entire list of languages that exist in LinguaLibre with this query. As of the of writing, there's a total of 720 languages.

It is worth mentioning that there exists a property in LinguaLibre for storing the Wikidata QID for a given language. For example, here's the item for Spanish in LinguaLibre, as you can see there, it has a property whose value is Spanish (Q1321).

Support the first 4 examples are a bit low-value (this data can already easily be found with a query on LinguaLibre SPARQL endpoint ; there was also the idea of deleting the languages item on LinguaLibre to directly use the Wikidata items), the 3 last examples are here the real value is I think.
