Motivation edit

This would be used to specify feast day (P841): not only is the day of such a celebration relevant, but also the rank, see for example en:Ranking of liturgical days in the Roman Rite. It would always be connected to a certain feast day, because a feast can't have a rank without being on the calendar, for which it needs to have a day. I started to add references for the feast days, and, since calendars always give the rank next to the feast, it seems sensible to add this information as well.

There needs to be a way to make clear that, e.g., Jerome (Q44248) is on one calendar as a Memorial (Q1417046), on the other as a Double feast (Q98785000), even though he is on the same day on both. I assume this works by having "rank" next to "feast day", with the reference attached to both? question resolved

Discussion edit

  • This sounds like a use-case for Qualifiers associated to feast day (P841) to me. Nevertheless, this means a liturgical rank property is indeed missing and should probably be created. --Vogone (talk) 00:24, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is a very useful property with at least several hundred use-cases for which there is no already existing alternative. The same would be true for the liturgical class which I therefore would also create. As Vogone mentioned this would imho be best implemented as a qualifier; otherwise one would have to duplicate a lot of data. --KPFC💬 12:06, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •   Comment is there a way to make this more general than just for one religion? It should probably work for Christian orthodox as well, and probably a few more religions/belief systems that use a similar approach to the calendar? --Hannes Röst (talk) 17:40, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • I think it should work for others without problems. When any item can be set as the value, you would only need to create the items corresponding to a different calendar's ranks (if they don't exist already because e.g. there are Wikipedia articles describing them). --MF-W 20:59, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't know what the word liturgical means without asking a dictionary. That means it would be good if the description would explain what it means instead of just repeating it. All the examples are focused on Christian examples. How does the property interact outside the Christian tradition? ChristianKl13:25, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have edited the description. - If they have similar systems of ranking feasts, then it can apply just as well to them. I'm not aware of any that do, but that doesn't exclude that they exist, of course. --MF-W 01:58, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why is Liturgical rank capitalized? Is it supposed to be a proper name? ChristianKl13:31, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is there a reason that this proposal has not moved forward after four months? It would be really helpful if it could be approved soon so we can finally begin to add this data to the items. – KPFC💬 19:32, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
