Motivation

This is a fairly new social network which has got some traction recently. I'm not quite sure about the formatter URL. Ideally we could reuse the groups in the regex to translate "jz@mamot.fr" to "http://mamot.fr/@jz", but it does not seem that this functionality is supported by formatter URL (P1630). − Pintoch (talk) 21:57, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion
Given that the nature of the network is about being decentralized I'm not sure whether a formatter URL is useful. ChristianKl (talk) 18:59, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I would say that the decentralized nature of the network makes URL (or rather a URI) all the more relevant. − Pintoch (talk) 23:00, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
somehow I wasn't quite paying attention - I can set up a formatter using the wikidata-externalid-url service if/when this property is created. ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:12, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to share that in the talk page there is a probably relevant discussion, trying to consider the "big picture" of social networks in general. See Wikidata talk:Property proposal/Mastodon address :) --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 19:28, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
