Motivation edit

This is an important property of a sewing machine. It varies wildly between machines, some can do 1 some 8 and some hundreds of different stiches. --So9q (talk) 09:36, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion edit

@Bluerasberry:I don't really have any. It is my own opinion. If you look at sales ads for sewing machines it's one of multiple things that are advertised. Some customers want a lot of stitches but most just use straight and zigzag. In the old days the sewing machines could just do a straight stitch. These days they have computers built in and can do up to about 9 mm wide stiches with letters and what not.--So9q (talk) 21:22, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@So9q: Is it correct to say that the primary source of this data would either be ads or the operation manual for the sewing machine? If so, I am unsure what to think of that as it seems more difficult than typical to verify. I suppose there should be a database of sewing machines somewhere and that Wikidata could be it. •   Oppose There are only 64 items which are P31/P279* Q106153893, all but one of which (as far as I can tell) were added by the the property proposer and none of which have sitelinks. That is not enough to justify a new property. People generally suggest using has part(s) of the class (P2670) with a quantity (P1114) to model "number of". I suggest either using that, or proposing something similarly generic. - Nikki (talk) 18:53, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. I marked it as abandoned now.--So9q (talk) 08:40, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
