Motivation edit

In Q items for collections, and in Q items for the persons or organizations that the collections are about, it would be helpful to provide a direct link to the corresponding finding aids that are hosted in the Online Archive of California (OAC). The OAC hosts over 20,000 collection guides and finding aids for collections throughout California including those maintained by the 10 University of California campuses. Since the finding aid is the most authoritative and complete source of information about a collection, and since OAC is a central point of access for finding aids of California repositories, the creation of an external ID would be appropriate, serving as an easily recognizable access point.
