Motivation edit

This set of property proposals will help enhance senses by connecting senses on verbs and verb phrases to other lexemes whose senses describe those verbs'/verb phrases' semantic roles. There should ideally be on the verb/verb phrase sense a has thematic relation (P9971) with an appropriate value in order for one of the properties above to be used; it would not make sense for 'describes actor of' to point to a verb sense which does not have an agent or a cause. The generalization from 'agent' and 'patient' to 'actor' and 'undergoer' is influenced by Figure 1 in this paper and is intended to help with alignment of similar links between different senses--for verbs with larger valencies, this might require qualifying the second of the proposed properties above. (Note that more proposals may be added to the above, and the above possibly significantly revised, as more information and examples become available.) Discussion edit

  •   Support Interested to see how this develops. Going to think about how this might be used with higher valency verbs. -عُثمان (talk) 13:42, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  •   Support in general but   Comment So speaking of higher valency we have things like "Giver gives gift to receiver" - here "Giver" would be the "actor", but is the "receiver" or the "gift" the "undergoer" here? (edited) - Oh I see you mentioned using it would be both with perhaps a qualifier. Ok. Hmm, yes I would have to think a bit. ArthurPSmith (talk) 19:07, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
