- Motivation
The Surman Index site is hosted by Queen Mary University of London (Q195668), and covers 32K records of British nonconformist ministers. While the focus is on Congregational ministers, others are included, among them a coverage of older Presbyterians. The digitisation of the original index by Charles Surman has been funded by a Royal Academy grant, and further support by Dr Williams's Library (Q5304565) and others.[1] The material is useful for British and North American history, in particular, and for the background of missionaries.
