Motivation

The Times of India (Q46807) is the third-largest newspaper in India by circulation and largest selling English-language daily in the world according to Audit Bureau of Circulations (India). It uses topic ID on their website which groups information like news, photos, videos on that topic and displays. Each ID has some basic information on the topic (I found that it is mostly extracted from Wikipedia without attribution). So by this Topic ID, we can map this news source by Wikidata items. We may later contact them and say to use Wikipedia snippets with attribution by fetching Wikipedia article by this Topic ID. Wikipedia can benefit by resource suggestions (like that notice in Visual Editor when there is no reference on articles. That notice include resources like NYT.) based on topic ID for citations. -Nizil Shah (talk) 06:26, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Support by analogy with all other properties of this type. Mahir256 (talk) 05:33, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  •   Support Looks more like a search function (URL inserts the uppercased id value into a search box on the site and triggers a search). I'm not sure about the inner working: "gujarat flood" seems to resolve to "gujarats floods" and shows a topic description, while "gujarat flooding" or "gujarat deluge" apparently don't. The propery seems useful, however I'm not sure about the Wikidata policies in a case like that. Jneubert (talk) 10:57, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The plan of action under "Planned use" sounds very reasonable, and probably will help making topic use on the site more transparent. Jneubert (talk) 11:09, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
